I should really measure my waist too and put that in. Maybe next week, if im feeling brave. I think around my belly button its about 30".

I will if you will :)
BTW Bluecow - have you seen the thread about a training ride into the peaks in feb. I was hoping you would come too as my husband may raise an eyebrow if I say I'm going off for a ride with a dozen blokes I met on the internet  . Can you make it?

    Oh.

    How queer.

Despite everything I'm down to 89kg (was 95 before Christmas).

Nice to be back on the bike though :)

bluecow, I think if you cycle enough you might be able to loose more weight and quicker.

I lose about about 2 stone in 2 months, maybe less, although since I've stopped doing around 1000 miles a month it has started to come back.

Makes me realize how little miles I'm doing at the moment, I was planning to kickstart 2009 with another 1000 mile month, so far I doubt January will be :(

I don't know if I should aim to loose a stone by march, I weigh in at 11.5 stone now and think I may be too thing in places like my arms but my stomach and chest still has fat, I don't want manb00bs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Too much weight loss in too short a time.Research has demonstrated that the greatest effective weight loss is 2 lbs max per week, more rapid weight loss tends to result in yo-yoing of weight.

Just keep it up! Being persistent is key. If you keep it up, sooner or later you'll find a way to take in fewer calories than you're using and then you WILL lose weight. Honest!

Mind if I join in? Just weighed myself & was horrified to discover I'm 15st 8. Worked really hard last year to get down from 17st 9 to 14st 7 just before Christmas, but looks like I've spoiled myself!

I might add that I've just eaten, am fully clothed & need a poo - like that'll make much difference!
  • Weight on Jan 1st = 90.0 Kg
Weight last weds = 88.7 Kg
Weight tonight = 87.9 Kg. I think (hope) that the work is starting to pay off???

Miles ridden this month = 276

Ain't done too bad. Thurs & Fri did about 40-50 miles in total. Over w/e the light was good so was out enjoying one of my other hobbbies (photography). Monday, for the second week running got up and cycled to work in heavy rain (just the straight 10 m though) then 13 m home. Tues, had to go up to Leeds on business but managed a sneaky 10 m before going for the train. Then in Yorkshire until tonight - usually mange to eat a bit less when I'm away from our cheese supplies! On the train on the way home was reading about Poppette!!

Sunday night booked my hotel for the Mad March Hare and entered the Squires and Spires - can't wait.

On top of that I've just got a replacement Assos 851 jacket from wiggle to replace the one the zip fell off. They even emailed me to tell me that they'd credited my paypal account the £2.80 it cost to post it back to them - stars.

    A good week.

    DM

p.s. what we really need is somebody good with Excel so we could have a graphs to show our progress over the weeks.
  • .......should have said, I was in Leeds attending a symposium on obesity. I managed to stay away from the bacon sarnies presented to us when we arrived but having skipped breaky was desparate by coffee time - all they put out were these massive great slabs of fruitcake - must have been about 300 calories each but it would have been rude not too!!
  • weight on 12 jan 87.5 kg, weight on 18 Jan 86.5kg

having a bad week this week for some reason cant stop eating cheese, not got many miles in either been on a course so missed my daily commute (16 miles) might forget to post next week............sorry bluecow lol

    Loser.
You can't just cherry pick which weeks you post just because you have "off" weeks!
Everybody has those, and i find it cathartic and cleansing to errrr come clean.
  • lol......ok bluecow youve shamed me into it, got a 60 mile ride planned saturday but we are supposed to get snow in Yorkshire on sunday, so will have to padlock the fridge!!!!

There is a scientific name for this - it is called toomuchcheeseinthehousealitis. Fortunately, there is a cure for it which is 100% effective in all cases - stop buying cheese. This usually results in the sufferer eating jam sandwiches instead so bread and jam must also be banished. The next fallback option is cake, so the house has to be purged of that (NB - not by eating it!). Ditto sweets, biscuits, chocolate, crisps, soft drinks, full-fat dairy, alcohol... Eventually, the only option left would be nibbling fruit or veg and (within reason) that's good for you. Job done!

    Rather pleased with myself.

Just finished my second week commuting this year (8 miles each way) and have managed a 58 and 48 mile ride the past 2 Sundays. No other exercise of note. Portion control has been excellent and the woman at work has been keeping tabs on me, keeping me very hydrated.

Weight on New Year's Day was 15st 10lbs. Weight this morning 14st 12lbs. According to the scales my body fat has dropped 1.8% but I am 2% more hydrated!

    :)

Don't worry about mudguards for the intro ride, plenty of other people won't have them. I'd recommend sticking near the front of the group, 'cos if the group breaks in two like last week, as you'll be guarenteed to be with someone who knows the route.

Im going on the shorter ride. Hopefully Ben will up the pace a little from last week but not too much! I'll probably start going on the longer rides soon.

I have just done something very silly... I just entered the 102 mile Cheshire Cat. Well, its the same entry fee as the 66 miler and i like to get my money's worth...

There's a difference between an "Intro" ride and a "Shorter" ride even if there isn't much difference in the mileage.

Intros are invariably slower because (if it works) no one gets dropped which is a big help to beginners who are worried they may not be quick enough for other rides. The shorter runs should be a bit quicker pace because they are just shorter training rides, but pace always varies depending on who's riding and what they've done the day before.

If you are on the shorter ride and want to work harder, just take a good long turn on the front. The leader will tell you any turns you need to make.

And if possible you should have mudguards. The rides are training rides, not races and your fellow riders want to enjoy the ride too. I can see it may happen on an intro ride, but on the shorter rides you really ought to have them on. Not only that, if you are riding regularly at this time of year you'll be pleasntly surprised how much more pleasurable your own ride is too ;)
