I really fancy going somewhere warm over winter on a training camp to get myself set for Summer, the only issue is that I have no one to go with! None of my mates are into cycling and whilst i have a few mates through my CC none of them are up for going away. Do any of you lot go on your own to training camp or is normally a group thing?

I've only been in the past with a group of friends (unguided as they knew the routes), planning on going solo to a guided training camp in March though (although trying to persuade at least 1 other to go so I avoid the single person supplment :p ).

that's what i thought! Always best to avoid the single supplement, no fun going to breakfast on your own either!

The last time I went to Spain, I went alone. It did cost a lot more with the single room supplement but I didn't have anyone to go with.

If you are going on an organised camp, the holiday company could probably find other riders for you to share the room with. I didn't fancy sharing with strangers, but that's just me. If you are pretty easy going then just tell them that you'd like to share and let them sort it out.

I've been on the Sports Tours International Andy Cook camp a couple of times and it was no problem going on my own. People were very friendly and there were plenty of others in the same boat.
It really wasn't a problem and I had a great time!

I'm doing a trans Pyrenean tour this summer on my own, it appears I'm going to be one of the few if not only English speaker too...that'll be fun!

  • I did 5 days by myself in tenerife in december - no big deal, just a take a good book or two and be prepared to chill in the evenings. If other folk are there that are social and same kind of level then great, otherwise look at doing longer slower rides rather than short fast stints
