999 watts on a trainer!

Bought an Elite Chrono last week. First ride on it and I was able to reach at least 999 watts at 60kph. Maintained this for 2 x 5 minutes, and I can't help thinking that this is stoopidly incorrect. I am using a Specialized Tricross (07) which is not highly geared. This bike has an allowance for a wider wheel, so as I am using road tyres, the obvious (to me) question is should there be more resistance, and should I achieve this by raising the unit so there is greater contact between the unit and the tyre?

Bradley Wiggins rides his individual pursuit at 580-600 W, and 4k takes him a bit over 4 minutes. Either you need to move to Manchester and consider a change in career, or your setup isn't calibrated right.FTT

Check your connections - I have an Elite in/out trainer and was able to get up to 999 watts easily on the first go so I checked all the connections and realised that the connection into the computer was not fully pushed in. So there was no resistance increase when i changed up the levels. Now on level 6 I can hardly pedal.0

Excellent, thanks for the tip - it is good that someone has the same trainer (and problems) and can offer practical solutions. I hope that this works when I'm next on the trainer! The ultimate cruelty of love's pinions0 -
FYI chipperleenie you were spot on. Just like to repeat my thanks - and off I go!The ultimate cruelty of love's pinions0

... would have been interesting though, if the other explanation had been the correct one?
