Anyone with a Polar CS600 - need some help please...

Having a few problems with the cadence sensor - the cs600 isn't registering that the cadence exists and keeps giving me the "no sesor found" message.

It is positioned correctly and the red light flashes when I rotate the cranks.

In the ProTrainer software - the battery levels for the HR, Cs600 and speed are displayed. The cadence battery level was detected at one stage too (full green bar).

Any ideas?

  • Hmmm... I've got this model and don't have that problem. I wonder if there is a configuration issue here?

Or also, try it taking the computer off the bars and sit it on the ground beside the cranks.

If you see no joy, I'd take it back. :(

I'd second the above. If the red light flashes for the first however many passes of the crank, then you have it setup ok. The only exception is the distance between the sensor and the head unit itself. Have you tried posting this on the Polar Cycling Forum?

Do you have more than one bike up in which case are you sure you are teaching the sensor to the right bike?

If you wish illiminate a distance problem then pull the sensor and magnet off and then move the whole lot over to beside the headunit and just pass the magnet by the cadence sensor a few times to simulate the crank arm turning that way you can quickly tell if it is a distance problem.

I find the Polar forum a bit slow however Polar have started to monitor it. Personally I would by pass that forum and just ring technical support at Polar if you are certain you have a dud.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'd already tried putting the unit next to the sensor etc, oh well I'll just have to send the sensor back and hopefully the next one will be ok.

You don't mention what your frame material is. I had a similar problem with a new full carbon frame. If indeed you have a carbon frame , I will explain let me know

Why don't you explain for everyone that way if anyone else experiencing the same problem comes across this thread they will have your answer as another thing they can try

    Quite right :D

I'm not 100% if the problem here is that the unit never has registered or only doesn't when at a distance

My problem was that I was not getting any cadence reading when I had the units on the bike as per Polar's manual. My bike ( Specialized Roubaix Carbon ) has a very fat Down Tube. What ever I did I could not get the cadence registering any reading on the hand unit unless I had them very close together.( that made riding rather difficult  ) A call to Polar didn't help at all , they just denied any problems with Carbon frames. As a last measure I attache the cadence sensor to the " Seat tube " which is much smaller in diameter and the thing started working properly and I have not had any problems since.

The large diameter carbon down tube obviously was absorbing most of the signals ( Well at least I think so )

    Hope this helps

I should have mentioned in my earlier post that I had a problem with my Speed sensor recently. I sent it back to Polar in Warwick and I had it repaired and returned to me within 4 days. Sent on the Monday, delivered back to me on the Thursday. Pop the sensor along with your proof of purchase or something else showing it came from an authorised dealer and a brief description of whats wrong. You'll probably have a more succesful response than thus far.

Yep can't speak highly enough of Polar Customer Service. Very quick & always willing to replace genuinely faulty products without question. Pity their newer CS600 sensors seem to be a bit less robust than their older s series stuff however all you can you ask for is that when there is a problem it is dealt with efficiently and that's what you get.

Interesting - certainly worth the watching that one. I have a Scott CR1, which is full carbon, however I haven't experienced any problems though I don't have the same bike so I can't make any further comment other than that.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have a titanium frame / carbon forks.

The head unit wouldn't even pick the the cadence when I placed them right next to each other - anyway it's in the post to the shop where I purchased it.

Can anyone help me with the Protrainer 5 software? I'm still getting to grips with programming in phases of an exercise - I have set some times in the Target Times in Sports Zones but on the general targets tab it has a distance of 1.7 miles at 2.3 km/h - very confusing.
