I have to agree with the Audi drivers ruling. I was passed by an un-marked police Audi yesterday evening, at speed, lights and siren going, with about an inch to spare.

When I hear a siren I tend to get the f*ck out of way. As in get my bike off the road and side on the pavement until said emergency vehicle has passed and normal traffic flow has resumed.

Clarkson's persona is a call to arms to all right minded liberals, so he does serve a purpose to us lefties as well! And he's a fantastic TV presenter - one of the absolute best.

    Wow sweeping generalisation there.

It's the Audis that have caught my attention this week, but an increase in the number of scooters that are being driven by complete choppers. Has this bus lane thing or the cold air gone to their empty heads? They'll be mounting the pavements next.

Too right...and not only do they ride like the road is their own personal little computer game...but more and more of them seem to have foriegn plates. Anyone noticed that?

If I spot a car/scooter with a foreign plate within 3 metres of me, spidey senses immediately ramp up to max tingle. I am very wary of them. We all know Johnny Foreigner can't drive.

Does anyone remember that ridiculous programme from the nineties which they billed as a "European" driving competition for kids that had recently passed their test? iirc it was always the British kid who came first and the Johnny/Johnette Foreigners were always made to look like complete tits. The whole thing just screamed fix.

Or did I just imagine it?

As much as I despise such divisive stereotyping (ha!) it does seem that Audi drivers are in fact the new BMW drivers.

This morning I was separately tailgated, passed with inches to spare and finally left hooked by 3 different flash new Audis.

So if you or anyone you know is thinking of buying one: don't do it kids - it may very well turn you into a c0ck on four wheels.

I have both a BMW and an Audi......I feel slightly sick!

My Audi is a 1992 K reg 80 2.8 - very old, but still going strong. My BMW is a 1999 T reg estate (clutch has just gone today at 280,000 miles.....) - kid and dog transport.

Does it make me any better if I never actually drive either of them....at all!?!

In defence of Audi drivers, yesterday I saw one with one of these amusing badges on it.
Conclusion? They can't all be bad...

All drivers of German and Japanese cars tend to be a bit rubbish. Have found Alfa and Jag drivers to be very aware.

    Nah, you're officially a c0ck on 8 wheels!

Seriously though, any Audi more than 2 years old is automatically excluded cos it's only recent flashy models that count. It all went downhill after they brought out the TT

    You are so right! 8)
  • At the risk of generalising, mums driving to and from school in their enormous 4x4s just blast past you with inches to spare. It's as if the white line in the road is a burning river of lava, or covered with shards of glass and it must not be crossed even if there's nothing coming the other way.

Back on topic, Clarkson is a buffoon, but that's his character. I'm sure his views are more sensible when off TV, but hey, he has to earn a crust from his books and DVDs, you know!
  • Interestingly, we did some filming for Top Gear this year, and all three of them were either in 'on' mode for the entire very long day, even when having breaks drinking tea or smoking (which they did constantly), or they actually don't really have personas for TV. They were all thoroughly nice.

I feel vindicated....I used to only have Alfa Romeo's, Mercs (company cars) or Land Rover/Discovery things - but a bloody great mortgage has put pay to my car years and in reality it is all a waste of money anyway. Motorbikes are far better!

I went to school with Richard Hammond.....didn't really know him though..

Which episode was this? By the way I saw a couple of the Top Gear Australia episodes and it looked like they tried to replicate the Clarkson-May-Hammond trio in every detail inculding their relative heights.

I was under the impression it's whatever professional racing driver that is available - so the Stig in one show isn't necessarily the same as the Stig in the next show.

There are two STIGS or at least there were last year. During the 24hr race the car Richard Hammond crashed in to was being driven by STIG 2.

When I went to a Top Gear filming last year the Stig remained in his helmet throughout (he was taking some selected few of the audience on joy rides around the track - it looked brill!). Apparently his contract contains a condition that it is terminated if his identity is revealed, however, I can exclusively reveal here....

a popular current theory is that it is Ben Collins, as the investigation into Richard Hammond's accident mentioned his name as being involved as a "stunt driver". Not sure if this is definitive proof however.
