Muscles used and body positioning?

First Question:
Why, when I lean RIGHT forward on the bike to get as aerodynamic as possible, does it feel like i'm working my quadriceps (front thigh) a lot more? They seem to get tired quicker in that position, compared to an upright position, but I can't work out why - my legs seem to be bending and moving the same way...?
Second Question:
I have always put my feet on the pedals in the most comfortable position for me (centered) but, now that I have feet-straps on my new bike, they force the ball of my foot to touch the centre of the pedal which means it feels like i'm using my calf muscles more - as a result I get tired quicker because they aren't as strong as my other muscles and I can't transfer as much power onto the bike as before. It's like starting again. Apparently, this is the most efficient way of pedaling but i'm really tempted to going back to my old ways as I can go so much faster! Which way is right/wrong? Is there a right and wrong?

The further forward on the saddle you are the more you will work your calves. The further back you sit on the saddle the more you will work your quads. Someone will no doubt correct on that but I'm pretty sure I'm on the money. Hope this helps. Tony.0
