I'm glad I switch back to flat pedals on the MTB, DMR's are perfect for off road snow & ice, just don't let them whack you in the shin :?

  • I can certainly sympathise with you all.

It's my first winter over here and I've tried to carry on commuting but the "trouble" is, 12 miles of my 13 mile commute is through a park on a tarmac path that doesn't have the snow cleared. It's just too deep to cycle on at the moment.

I remember last year when I worked in Cornwall, I didn't have to wear my gloves for the whole winter!

I've been out at the weekends here in -27 just for "fun" I was told the cold is different here as it's a dry cold and for the most I would agree with that, but when I went out in -27 and I could feel my nostril hair freezing, it didn't matter that the cold was dry.

I've made some spiked tyres using some steel screws and an old MTB tyre and they work great on packed ice. I haven't found anything that will let you cycle through deep snow.

Enjoy your snow while it lasts!!

You sympathise with us? Christ on a bike! It's us who should be sympathising with you!

I was in Montreal last month and, hell's teeth, it was cold! You'd have to be as mad as cheese to commute in that weather. However, it seems that your problems could well be solved if you use that Remmington nose hair trimmer thingy. Not the Fuzz Gone. I think that does jumpers. The other one.

How do you get to work? Snowshoes? Sled and huskies? :)

    "Exactly."

Damn, I wussed out this morning, snow looked quite thick in Prestwich. However as soon as I got to the motorway there was none and only a thin layer of slush when I got to work. What a wasted opportunity :(

Argggh it's also one of those rare North / South switch in the wind days (albeit quite a light wind) which I love on my commute
