Hope to see you there!
Oh, and it's not a race. Pushing up hills, pushing down hills, passing out through oxygen starvation and stopping to admire the view are all acceptable.0 -
Is the car park free, or pay and display? If P&D how much change do we need?Frank Yates0

It's free gratis. There is a barrier that is shut and locked at 6pm but we'll be back long before that.0 -
We hope
See you all tomorrow .It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
Gits - And I bet it was dead hard on the ground today, so the riding was good.
Hope you all enjoyed it.0 -
Certainly was when I hit the ground after losing an argument with a patch of ice. Bit of a winter wonderland, bl**dy cold, especially when the wind got up. Everything was covered in frost, still is now  .
Ended up doing pretty much the same route as we did in November, introduced a few more forumites to the joys of Calderdale and real hills.
I'm sure we'll be out again before too long so watch this space. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

Hi guys, thanks for today. A good ride, in fact, given the conditions it was an excellent ride. Think we all ended upon the ground at some point.
Must do it again.
(Only downside was that we had to go into Yorkshire.)Frank Yates0 -
Just got home - absolutely knackered! Big thanks to DaveHill (aka John) for organising a great ride and all the boys who came along. Have to do it again when I recover!
Cheers,
Joe
Ps. I think you will find that as no one saw my tumble, technically it didn't happen! The Maxlight: http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo17 ... CN1001.jpg0 -

Thanks for coming chaps, glad you all enjoyed it.
I'm sorry I turned into such a wet blanket but I'm quite obviously not well at all - I'm still coughing and wheezing like a busted accordion now, five hours later. Off to bed with a stiff drink and tub of Vicks I think!
I'll e-mail you all shortly with a copy of the route that we did. Just so you know, we did 19 miles and 2860 feet of climbing.0 -
Theres nowt wrong with Yorkshire!
Glad you all enjoyed it - Make sure you post up again for the next one.0 -

Best thing that came out of Yorkshire is the road to Lancashire.0 -

I'll stick it on YouTube and post the link here. Unfortunately I didn't get as much as I'd hoped - I don't know if it was the cold but the batteries in my helmet camera died very quickly yesterday.
Anyhoo, I'll post what I've got.0 -
Are there any stills available? I thought I saw you snapping at various times.Frank Yates0

Sounds like you guys had a very good time. jealous!
I'll make it one day! Won't be till summer now cus i'm suck in London till then0 -
Well I've just got back from riding the original planned route.
I think that I have never had as bad a day on the hills as I've had today. Whether fell walking, fell running, doing mountain marathons, orienteering, rock climbing or mountain biking I've never disliked a day out as much as this morning. I will never, ever go back over those tracks.
If I wasn't going up near vertical tarmac I was going over a trackless bottomless morass. It took me nearly 2 hours to do the first 6 miles. I had been thinking that something was wrong, and suddenly it came to me. There were no tyre tracks anywhere to be seen. I can only put this down to the locals knowing what a sh1t place this is.
By the time I reached Ditches Farm I'd had enough, and when I saw a Post Office van I knew there must be an easy way down, so I took it.
This would have been a bad walk on it's own, but pushing a bike was purgatory.
Please shoot me if I ever think of going anywhere near those trails in future!
(With apologies to Dave Hill )Frank Yates0 -
I think you must have got a bit off route, there are some good trails on both sides of the valley, bit exposed in places but pretty rideable (admittedly a bit steep in places). If you do get on the wrong track it easy to end up axle deep if you're unlucky, you need local knowledge .It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
No he's right, there are certain places over Freeholds top and down towards Ditches which are a bit "sketchy", shall we say?
I find it doesn't help round here when the weather's as dank as it has been recently, it's not too bad during summer (whatever that might be).
That said, I am monumentally fed up with it being wet !0 -
Thank you for reassuring me. The stretch to Holden Gate was also ***** I was following a line of posts, but they suddenly disappeared and left me in a reed bed that looks as if it will never dry out.
I was seriously questioning my sanity, and bike riding abilityFrank Yates0 -
Very often, you'll find in this area that you can find the start of a trail and the end of it too, but you've got to make the bit inbetween up as you go along.
It helps if you have a 1:25000 scale map and an inate ability to relate features marked on it with what's actually there. I find that field boundaries and power lines are invaluable markers for doing this - if I'm on the LH side of a powerline and the trail is marked on the RH side, I know I'm in the wrong place.0 -
Second the use of 1:25000 OS maps, the field boundaries are really useful for working out exactly where you are. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

Can't agree more on the usefullness of 1:25k OS maps. Wait a minute, aren't I selling some at very reasonable prices on the classifieds?!!The Maxlight: http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo17 ... CN1001.jpg0
