Night Training

I am just wondering how many of you train in the evening on the roads?
I am really considering doing a 5 mile loop (6 loops in all in each session) l 2 0r 3 times times a week. The roads are busy but well lit.
I have a turbo but after 50 minutes I become bored. I would cycle to work but its only 4miles.
I have just been looking at lights on wiggle and fancy these - Cateye EL530 And LD1100 Light Set.
look forward to your comments

I train in the evening either running or cycling depending on my mood Most of the time it is indoors simply because after a days work it's simpler but I go out on Sunday'sWant a Site? Visit

bear in mind that the days are now getting longer. i commute in the dark and whilst it is great training the rush hour surrey traffic can be quite scary. i find mums in a hurry and white van man being the worst. ymmv.--

I did night rides the last couple of winters; a loop of about 18 miles. This year due to the dog lovers in our house having a problem with cold and wet I have been going out running with the dog. I have been going out at weekends on the bike though.0

I also do between 15 and 20 miles (depending on how I feel) 3 x per week in the dark after I get home from work. The first 5 miles and last 5 miles are in the city so can be frustrating with traffic. I just try to get to the front of queues at traffic lights and do sprints to exhaustion from the lights.
Cliffey, you say that you don't cycle to work as it is only 4 miles.....why do you have to go directly to work? Just go a few miles out of your way and extend the ride if you feel good in the mornings or evenings.
How is your fitness at the moment as 5 miles doesn't seem too ambitious for a semi competent cyclist. Going at 15 mph average that is only a short 20 minute ride. I spend more time getting all my kit on than that!
If you are just starting out then just getting some miles under your belt will help massively.17 Stone down to 12.5 now raring to get back on the bike!0 -

+1. My direct route to work is 10 miles but I often do more. i get fitter and see some variation (when it's light).
Go for it.

I do 1x 18mile loop about 5 times a week, I do it at night, about 11PM usually, sometimes I extend it to 30-40 miles though.
When I extend it, I usually just repeat the same route or do abit of the route, as it is all well lit in the city center.
I cant do it now whilst I am at home though as it's mostly out of towns here so it's pitch black so not possible, but I get to do longer rides at weekend and generally just get out more here.0 -

I've just recently started biking around on my road bike, and most of my biking has been at dusk/nighttime. If I didn't have to be up at 7:30 tomorrow i'd be out right now.
Nighttime riding is fun.2007 Fuji Newest 3.0.
