Another WKO+ queston

I'd like to use WKO+ to keep track of both my road and turbo sessions via upload from my Powertap. I have a small problem when using the Powertap on the turbo - it thinks I have covered a certain distance during my session, and that distance is uploaded to WKO+ along with all the other data from the PT. I would like to use WKO+ to keep track of my mileage, so is there any way to set the distance for turbo sessions to zero, or delete the distance (I'm only interested in power, HR and cadence - obviously - from the turbo sessions)? If so, will it screw anything else up in WKO+?

  • Use a different athlete name - ie Davey Turbo - or construct a chart in the chalkboard and uncheck turbo sessions in the calendar and press Update Chalkboard.

If your turbo resistance is sensible why does it matter and if you're using a PT why do you care about mileage when you can use TSS?
  • There are several options but none are simple. But not sure why you'd really care.

Apart from what's already been mentioned:

You can download from PT into WKO+, export the file as a .csv, open in excel, then wipe all the speed data and re-import the data.

Or you could import to another athlete name to get data and create a manual entry for yourself without speed/distance data but include power/TSS/duration.

Or you could differentiate workout types in WKO+, then choose to do distance based charts based on outdoor rides only.

    and so on....

I don't bother looking at mileage as a measure of training volume, TSS is the future!

I think WKO+ is useless when used as a general training diary for anything other power downloads. I myself do a lot of gym work where I do a lot of interval training as I don't have a turbo but do have gym membership. I download my heart rate file to WKO+ but I can't add my distance to the file. Pretty poor. WKO+ was created with power downloads in mind and it really hasn't progressed beyond that. Pretty poor in my opinion but our choice is limited!!

I use WKO in conjunction with trainingpeaks...

While it is true that the effective analysis of power meter data was the original (and primary basis) for the development of WKO (mainly because the options available at the time were pretty ordinary), it has actually added quite a range of functionality since it was first introduced (including, not insignificantly, the Performance Manager), just not all of it relates to cycling.

But complaining that specialist power meter analyst software doesn't do what you want 'cause you're not feeding it data from a power meter is a bit rich.

    Also:
    i. distance/speed info from an indoor trainer is pretty meaningless info anyway.
ii. Nevertheless, if you really want to record how far your indoor trainer flywheel travelled, you can make a manual entry with distance, speed, duration, HR etc.
iii. the most important metric for a day's workout is probably the TSS, which can be estimated and added to a data file should one have a minority of rides performed sans power meter.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm not interested in mileage for anything other than curiosity as to my road mileage in comparison to previous, PowerTap-less, years. Obviously the various max power values and TSS will be more useful in tracking progress and training volume.

The simplest way to do this I think is to set the "Sport" for turbo sessions to be other than "Bike", e.g. "XC Ski"

You can then use the sports filter on the charts to include/exclude your turbo sessions.
