Arikbal, just a quick question (this is genuine too!), Do you mind me asking why you feel differently towards Ricco as opposed to other (caught) dopers who get slammed on this site (e.g. Basso, Landis, Rasmussen, Kohl etc)??
Now tongue-in-cheek :
Simeoni and Armstrong both have their critics on this forum over their infamous stoush. Are you on the athlete's side in both instances?0 -
Arkibal wrote:iainf72 wrote:Arkibal wrote:Have you been a Pro athlete=earning your salary as an athlete?
I'm curious, why would this make one jot of difference? Obviously because you have you have a different POV and I'm interested ot understand it. And this is a genuine question.
Well sitting on your ass instead of working hard out, yes, that makes a difference.
And as it goes in every aspects of life, no matter if it's sports, economy(bad joke), the better you are, the more you'll get paid.
The only thing is that while you are sitting on your ass, you are unlikely to get injured, having an injury that could finish your sporting career, not likely.
Since you "know" so much about cycling and sports, I assume you have been an elite athlete............?
My brother is a bricklayer. He works hard 6 am starts and finsihes at 4pm., works 6 days week. He is only 34 but is now having to look at getting a new profession since he has sustained a back injury through this repetitive work. Does this mean he is qualified to pass comment on professional athletes who 'also work hard' and 'risk injury that could ruin his career'?0 -

Therefore, unless we are professional musicians we can't say that we don't like a particular song? (Or that I think the new Kings of Leon album is overrated?)
Unless we are a professional actor we can't give our opinion on who we think is worthy of winning an Oscar? (Or that the movie Australia is a bore-fest?)0 -
All credit to Iainf on the Caitlin question in Pro Cycling....but where are the cycling media's questions regarding why Caitlin is not yet tesing LA? This is serious...journos of this website/ forum...you should ask LA this at some point over his stay in Oz0

No I'm not.
But I really see how it can make no difference.
So you agree with Kimmage and Lemond as well then? They've been there.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -
Arkibal wrote:Clueless post, not surprised, coming from you.
Have you been a Pro athlete=earning your salary as an athlete?
I'll simply repeat, do we have to be elite athletes to discuss cycling? This would instantly rule out most of the Pro Cycling columnists as well as many other journalists. Can fans not have a say?0 -

^ + 1 Great Post
ATM the local press are just asking LA what he thinks of Adelaide and if he has been lucky enough to see a Koala.
Hopefully some of the European press will get a chance to ask the tough questions come next week.0 -

That's true. Many journalists following Armstrong will no nothing about cycling. When the racing gets to Italy and France, he'll have to face up to investigative journalists, not to mention the likes of Philippe Brunel or Eugenio Capodacqua.0 -
Mr Cossins, D Friebe...any chance you or your colleagues can have this Caitlin question raised to LA pls?pls?0

Here, here.
Call me old fashioned, but I like to see people doing what they say they will do.
This very questioned has cropped up elsewhere.
Why are journalists still mute?
You would have thought they would be very interested in an explanation.
Instead, we have the Aussie media hyping Lance's fitness, through Sean Yates.

We were promised transparency but got the ususal smoke and mirrors - I don't see where expecting someone to be true to their word has anything to do with having ever been a professional athlete and far more to do with ethics and values - but then I suppose I can't comment on that either, not being a moral philosopher or ethicist
agreed that this question needs to be asked - and hopefully someone will ask it. Or are we all too scared of the legendary blacklist and missing out on the Armstrong PR juggernaut? Seriously, the sport deserves better.0 -

It's official, Iain is a celebrity in the cyclingworld
From cyclingnews homepage, today's news headlines:-
Readers grill Armstrong in February's Procycling
The February 2009 edition of our sister magazine, Procycling (issue 121), has gone on sale in the UK and will soon be available in the US and the rest of the world. The cover star is Lance Armstrong, who Procycling were given exclusive access to during Astana's December training camp in Tenerife. Rather than asking the questions everyone else has been asking the seven-time Tour champion, Procycling gave their readers the chance to put their own questions to Armstrong, it resulted in an illuminating exchange – and one that's fired up debate on the message boards at bikeradar.com

 It sure would be nice to read an article about Lance Armstrong that focused less than 50% of its content on whether he's doped or not. Yes, I understand it's a very relevant topic but, seriously, can I get some information on some other things in the man's life:
-maybe throw in a co-interview w/ Carmichael to talk about how he's training, if his avg. watts are where they should be, VO2 levels, whatever;
-talk to his future baby's mama
-or get him & Contador together to duke out their intra-team rivalry issue...
SOMETHING other than debating, as we have INCESSANTLY for the past 9 years, whether this guy has doped or not.0 -

Cycling Weekly asked him about his VO2Max and he claimed he didn't know what it was and it hadn't been tested since he was a teenager. Or something.
I can say my questions were not about doping.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -

Er, try Heat Magazine instead of Procycling?0 -

I would if it asked questions I wanted to know the answers too, no good reading a repeat of a magazine published a few months before, which is what most mags are. Reading a cycling mag is like being in Groundhog Day0 -

Sure, I agree with you, which is why I rarely buy cycling magazines. But I'd rather an issue of Procycling filled with rehashed, reheated articles than an issue of Procycling featuring an interview with Lance Armstrong's pregnant girlfriend. The very idea is horrific!
Cycling WAG'S = :shock:0 -

All fair points except Carmichael. Useless dope pedalling charlatan.
I understand those who buy into any myth in cycling except for the brilliance of that clown. It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0 -

Is it possible only 2 or 3 of LAs close circle have more knowledge of how he did it than others? If he took EPO at some point someone connected his entourage must hve received it either through an online order or face to face...if he did EPO then someone someone...somewhere in the world knows that and keeps quiet...0

Do you expect Bruyneel or Ferrari to pipe up, "Funny, no one's ever put this to me this but since you're asking, let me explain. It all began in 2000 when...etc etc"?
I too long for the day when we can avoid talking about doping but we're not there yet, many results from the past were completely distorted because of doping and to discuss almost any race from 1991 to 2007 means you have to consider the effects of EPO, blood doping and other related methods.0 -
