Whoever posted this poll needs to brush up on their Boolean algebra. The only correct logical answer to an "either or" question is yes, unless both of the options are not true:
Normal person: "Is it a boy or a girl?"
    Computer nerd: "Yes."
Anyway, latex gloves are rubbish. Wear your blue nitrile proudly.

    Ahem, I posted the question
Yes, I know the wording is terrible, but it wasn't mine (see the thread "public apology")

    So there :P

PS in fact AT suggested a re-word anyway - does using gloves to stop yourself gettinig unnecessarily mucky make you gay? (My second option would be "sensible")

Personally I am enjoying watching the debate unfold and seeing just how proud all you gentleman folk are

Ah, the old "we women are above this sort of thing (I'm participating, really)" approach.

Its no different from pretending not to like football, just so we feel bad about ignoring you for a couple of hours on a saturday evening, you know.

Good news Linsen - grammar aside, it appears that you will be permitted to continue cycling. :D

Ah, the "football is actually worth watching" approach.......

Thank you for permission to ride, AT - you are too kind.

Now, what gloves shall I wear today.........?

Mine are actually not latex, I think they are vinyl.....

    That's very 70s :D

I don't use them, find them weird to the touch, and you lose feeling, as with some other latex products

  • i use nitrile gloves that i steal from work, and a good few of my friends ask me to get some for them too for fixing bikes. better than scrubbing oil off your hands, well i am a girl, don't want to get my nails dirty. i don't think you'll find many ladies that appreciate men with hands ingrainged in dirt and oil. plenty of bike mechanics use gloves.

Ahh, but at the side of the road, would you daintily produce said gloves (pastel blue, providing your lab orders the same brand as I used) from your saddle pack in order to fix a flat.

I have no objection to using gloves when getting up to your elbows in a bike cleaning excersise, but for fixing a flat, there is a problem.

Its a safety issue, you see. If motorists see us wearing washing up gloves to change punctures, then they will hate us even more and try to kill us.

    (Was that a convincing argument?)

No sport is ever worth just watching - only worth playing - and grass is for wiping anything that needs wiping

I never use gloves on the road, if you know what you're doing you can change a tube without getting any crap on your hands.

I use them sometimes in the garage though, especially when doing drivetrain maintenance. I have eczema, so I try to avoid harsh soaps, so if my hands get covered in grease they're hard to get clean...

oh you so didn't say that... I challenge you to change a tube after a ride in my 'hood' if you can do it without covering yourself in shoot yes cow shoot then I will eat a sandwich you've made with those hands
I'm a mountain biker, I'm used to tyres covered in crap. Challenge accepted. :D

Yeah, we never could get my brother properly house trained. ;)
  • +1 for nitrile, as a St John Volunteer I have a box of 500 and I have to use them for something ( not allowed near real casualties)

  • I always keep a few pairs in my backpack and I would use them to repair a puncture.
