Turbo trainers magnetic or fluid

What's better and why magnetic or fluid turbo trainers? Are the mains powered like the tacx i magic even better. Your thoughts please.

  • I would suggest something with a decent flywheel.
    Typically that doesn't include mag units. Doesn't mean fluid units have that feature either.

    I can recommend the Tacx Satori which is a magnetic one however it's very quiet.

    (To be fair I don't have anything to compare it with as it's the only one i've ever owned however I can sit in the living room on it and watch telly at a normal volume without any problem).

    As for the resistance - I use a fixed gear on it 46*17 and on the second resistance setting (2 out of 10) I can spin at 20mph for half an hour at around 90rpm and it's a really hard workout.

    At resistance level 10 it's a struggle to move the cranks let alone spin so I don't think there's any chance of spinning out on it even if you were using a geared bike and you were unfeasibly strong!

    The only thing is it doesn't have a power meter like the Tacx Flow however it is £100 cheaper.
