Ooooh and I had the old greeny blue Michellin Wildgripper XC tyres on it - looked a bit odd with the purple paint work!

Add to that Shimano DX Spds too and it was a bit of a colour mis-match!

A Carrera Krakatoa Flex 8) I've still got mine, just took the paint off it for a total rebuild... Under the stickers the paint was all still mint, and reminded me how nice it looked on day one. Then I spent 17 years systematically destroying it

 I even have the speedsprings in the Judy's inside condoms to stop them rattling!

An old trick recommended in MBUK if I remember correctly!

Started out with an orange and black marlboro - really cheap shitty thing

Replaced with a Carerra something - silver and purply pink with a flex stem

Replaced that with a 1994 Saracen Protrax SE with Rock Shox Judy XC forks - later replaced the elastomers with Speed Springs

    IMG_0423.jpg

Added a few gadgets to it, most of which were removed over the years - the sharkfin chainstay protector, a Dave's Chain Device, Crud Catcher with cool MBUK stickers attached underneath, X-lite bits and bobs wherever I could fit them, Planet-X I-beam stem, USE seatpost, and some Mavic X517 ceramic rims on XT hubs (currently for sale).

All the LX groupset on it still works! The wife has been riding it for the last 4 months and only recently have the gears started to go wonky.

I even bought the old bright orange Mint Sauce jersey and even considered a Mint Sauce tattoo with a bike chain round my arm

Think I may still have Dirt on VHS in my spare room too!

i still run my USE seatpost today (just like the one in your photo), back in the day they were highly rated by the likes of MBUK etc.
Show me your green bits i might buy them !

Anybody remember the days before there was even XTR or am I showing my age now?

I remember changing all my bolts on my bike for cool purple ones - later found out that cheap alloy anodized bolts don't hold too much - the seat slid down, the chainrings loosened every 1/2 hour, the stem loosened itself and my brakes fell off - but damn did it look good!

    Now here's a thing...

A mate of mine just posted a photo on Facebook, taken in the mid seventies of him as a youth about to start a junior cyclo-cross race in Silsden Park, near Keighley, W. Yorkshire.

One of the other lads in the picture is identified as one David Baker - turns out it was THE David Baker who used to ride with Tim Gould at Peugeot at later with the Raleigh MTB team. Apparently he had to jack it all in because of health problems.

Thanks Dave quick reply! No mate they are pro-circuit forks circa 92. I bought this bike in about 91-92 and bought these forks about year later. Then sold the bike in about 95 and regretted it ever since, so in 2006 i tracked it down and bought it. back, it was in a very sorry state. Took about a year to track down new parts and get frame painted and new decals made etc.

I love the way they almost have a set of forks for the rear suspension too - looks great!

With the amount of colours on the bike, you could almost ride to a rave with some glow-sticks strapped to your finger-less cycling gloves (even string backed!)

    Love it!

    This is bringing back memories.

I've just bought an old GT Tequesta to try and make up for me selling my even older Tequesta some 10 years or more back....

    I have Judys ! They're lovely !

And I remember being v envious of the square Pace frames when I was racing at Leisure Lakes etc.

Other lovely bits - my X Lite - Ti finish Long bar ends - they were lovely.

Tioga disk wheels. Such noise !

    Original Crud Guards.

    Purple everything.

Tioga Psychos were great tyres. (at the time)

Racing the Karrimor series. And the rocky stretch at Peckforton that I couldnt ride at all.

    really crappy U brakes

My park pre that replaced my GT - and its one piece bullhorn bars !

Aaah - those were the days.

Had 121's in an XTR-ish grey colour, and still got some d521's, also had some magical 217 Sunset rims on my Kona, was so proud of those!

With the weight side of things it was next to nothing very, very light in fact makes a lot of modern day bikes feel like elephants compared to it  I actually sold it for £1,200.00 so not bad at all really
