Advice on torn cartilage (labrum) around hip capsule

Having just had a cortisone injection in my hip following a fairly impressive road-race crash earlier this year I wondered if anyone had any shared experiences.
I believe the impact had caused some tearing/fraying of the cartilage which was shown on an MRI scan following referral by my GP. Symptoms were a constant ache, mild limp, hamstring tightness and a lack of strength in the leg.
The consultant explained that keyhole surgery would be the next step if the injection doesn't work.
The injection was only 2 days ago so its early days yet, but no noticeable improvement so far.

Welshy.
I had a bad fall with a horse on a road about 10 years where I came down on my hip with the full weight of the horse on to the Tarmac.Give the injection a chance and make sure you give your body TIME to recover.I didn't and still suffer discomfort after a long day in either saddle, horse or bikeGo neiri on bothar leat.0 -
Hmmm... gotta say I dont think there is much chance of the cartilage tear healing spontaneously - question is whether it will cause symptoms long term or not. I would be careful with this one and make sure things settle as best as possible.. and then seek attention early. Was there an y evidence of cam impingment or pistol gripping of the hip, or was it purely related to the trauma?0

No idea. You'd have thought the MRI films were Top Secret as I wasn't given a chance to have a look myself. No further explanation was offered by the consultant so I'm in the dark. I'll be seeing him again next week though so I could certainly ask.Neil0
