Heres my choice so far...
I'm not doing the Fred again...too much disturbing memories of this year on hardknott in that awful heat...
May - 5 Dales Richmond Challenge
June - Spud Riley (now called the Polkadot)
August - Ryedale Rumble.
And I may squeeze in another...

The srs spring challenge ride, 53 miles at the start of March. I think i need to get moving0
-
Think I'll run with:
May: Bealach Beag, Etape C & Skye Mor
June: Trossachs Ton
September: Bealach Mor
am sorely tempted to do the Duva event in Mallorca if it's on (or do something to dip my toe into the foreigh sportive water)================================
Cake is just weakness entering the body0 -
just signed up for the Etape Caledonia. I hope to do the Lakeland Loop again along with the Cheshire Cat, Pendle Pedal ( a brilliant brilliant event) and maybe a couple more.0
-
I am going to do the Fred again (subject to getting in, of course), because it can't be as hot as it was last year again, can it? Also one in August/September, which may well turn out to be the Ryedale Rumble. Was going to do the Lakeland Loop too, but decided against it.0
-
don't know about everyone else that did the fred this year but if I do it again next year I would HAPPILY take the weather from this year. it made the ride for me! plus the women at the side of the roads wore less clothes aiding the menfolk who did the ride to keep their concentration on those long climbs 8)0

FWC if I get an entry, Le Terrier and The Three Counties Challenge. These are local to me, I would possibly do more but will see nearer the time. I did one of the Gore Road Sportives this year at Lowther near Penrith; the course was excellent but I have not seen it advertised for 2009, shame.0

For what its worth next year,
spring Epic
Forest of Dean
Tour of Ireland Cycle Challenge
Richmond 5 Dales
Circuit of the Cotswolds
DLMC
Highclere
Tour of The Black Mountains
Rydedale Rumble
TransCambrian
Devil Ride
Le Terrier,
not neccessarily in chrono order, but wil try and do a few more, time and wife permitting the Marmotte
:roll:0 -
Quite tempted by the new polka/old spud... the Whitton... no, that's for real men... what about the Etape du Dales? I'm told it's even harder!
I'll do a couple in the south, where I live, Chiltern 100 and Circuit of the Cotswolds most likely... and that's it!left the forum March 20230 -
Being Northern based, I've so far entered the Cheshire Cat (165km) on 29th March and the Lakeland Loop on 12th April (120km).
I quite fancy the Dragon Ride and the Fred Whitton.
I may do some of the Merida Sportives (Saturday Road and Sunday MTB).
Keeping my eye out for some more northern based sportives, anywhere in Lancashire/Cumbria or maybe Yorkshire - suggestions welcome.0 -

This year I did the WRC aswell as the FWC...the WRC is reputed to be the toughest of the Dales Sportives...I found it very tough but not as bad as the FWC....it would be if the FWC never had Hardknott/Wrynose....but having these 2 brutes at the very end just takes it into another platform of pain....maybe it was also to do with the weather though...the WRC was a gorgeous day aswell but had a freshening wind...whereas the FWC was a boiling pot...and between 2.30pm and 3.30pm me and my mates were scorched alive on those finishing brutes...
I reckon the DLMC is the toughest...and certainly is this year...with the inclusion of Bwlch Y Groes the hard awful steep way....if you want to prove something then this surely is the one...
I also fancy the 3 Counties Challenge
P.s I've never did a 'easy' sportive :shock:0 -
None
I am saving up to go to world masters games in Sydney in October hopefuly.
I may ride round the dragon route for fun and just stop and take pics of people. If I start just before the first group might get some good pics, then if I meet anyone I might toddle around and take some more on the climbs.
If I do that I wont do the long route as I find that section boring but could get some good pics up the stretch to Penderyn but if I leave that bit out it is still a good training ride and I can catch the faster guys climbing again on last climb of Bwlch.0 -
I might start with the Drumlanrigg event in early May. I'm then trying to decide between doing the Fred Whitton again or the Richmond 5 Dales. At thre moment I'm veering towards the Richmond event because I haven't ridden Park Rash yet. I will probably ride the new White Rose Classic in Wensleydale, depending on the route. After that I haven't decided.
Dave Lloyd is planning an event in September called the 'Cumbrian Killer' which is bound to be excruciatingly hard. I'm tempted to enter that to give me a focus for the end of the Summer.0 -

This is the first I've heard of this one, and I was on the lookout for an event to do in September, so cheers for the heads-up. Does anyone know any details of the route? The only info I could find suggests that it does Hardknott and Wrynose the opposite way from the FWC; I guess it must be based in the South Lakes or else it'd be difficult to make it anything but the FWC in reverse. 5000m climb in 100 miles or so it's reckoned!0 -

That's all I know at the moment as well. I'm guessing it might be an 'augmented' Fred Whitton in reverse. If so, it would be an exciting prospect!0 -

Yip, I've been saying for years a FWC Reverse or at least a Hardknott/Wrynose in reverse should be devised...they are as infamous in reverse order...and Honister?Kirkstone are legends the opposite way aswell...however if they go south then I reckon that Birker Fell or Corney fell/ Stickle Pike and Kirbymorr maybe used...severity!
I'm really happy someone will take the pressure off the FWC as this Cumbriian Killer could prove dynamite.0 -
My sportives
Drumlanrig - to kick off the year
Fred Whitton - want to get under 8hrs without walking
SUS - if its being run in 2009
Dave LLyod Mega challenge - I want a shot a the Bylch from the hard side
Ryedale rumble - The chimney bank and other climbs in this sportive would almost nail my killer climb list for Britian.
Cumbrian Killer
And probably some other scottish ones if I can spare the time/cash.Brian B.0 -

An FWC reverse would indeed be a hell of a ride, in fact if I don't get into the event proper I might do that instead the weekend after. However, I don't think this Cumbrian Killer event can be a reversed FWC, because of the quoted distance and ascent figures. The Fred is about 110 miles with 3800m of climb, this is apparently 100 miles with 5000m, so I reckon it must be a tour of the bumpy stuff south of Hardknott/Wrynose (unless the ascent figure has been somewhat exagerrated). Besides, wouldn't it be bad form to nick someone else's route and run it in reverse??
Either way, the Cumbrian Killer is in my calendar!0 -
Current plan
Richmond 4 Dales (80 mile option)
Ryedale Rumble (80 mile option) - if you think I am trying to climb Chimney Bank at 100 miles you can think again!!
Thinking about riding the Northern Rock Cyclone, but not 100% yet.0 -
ive entered etape caledonia in may and bealach mor in sept.0
-
If all goes to plan then my ride list for next year looks something like this.....
Cheshire Cat
Lakeland Loop
Gran Fondo Cymru
White Rose Challenge
Devil Ride or Tour of Black Mountains
Wild Wales Challenge
Autumn Epic
Better get my butt into gaer and get some miles in I supposeHe who dies with the most toys wins!0 -
Etape Caledonia - I'm expecting to get trashed as this is becoming a seriously competitive event. Year one I did 4.44 and came in the mid 400's, Year two I did 4.55 and came in the mid 1100's. This has been a shite year for training and the Winter is looking bad already, so my aim is to beat 5 hours and 2000th place. Anything better than that and I will be happy.0

Cheshire Cat
Cingles du Ventoux
Etape Cally
Pain in the Pennines
nowt planned just yet for later in the season..0 -
I plan to do the Tour of Flanders cyclosportive the Ronde Van Vlaanderen on the 04/04/09
Have any of you done this event, I am not doing the full distance 260km is a bit far for me
but the 140km event seem like a good challenge of my fitness.
what's it like -- what wheels should I use?
Anybody else doing this event?Yours in Sport The SRS Events Team http://twitter.com/srsevents http://www.srs-events.cc http://ontherivet.ning.com0 -

'Vermooten' is your man....send him an email....he has an entry in this very thread....0 -
Cingles de Ventoux – not a sportive as such , you pick up a card from the tourist office and get it stamped to prove each of the 3 ascents made on the day.
Tour of Flanders - for wheels, avoid deep section rims and use tyres wider than 23 mm – 25 mm or 28 mm will do, Slick Michelin Pro type will slip on wet cobbles and 23mm or thinner risk running into the gaps between cobbles on some of the rougher sections.
Probably the Invicta Grimpeur audax as a Flanders warm up.
Giro Sardegna – though actually, unless I get dropped during the fast starts every day it's a race.
Ch'ti tour / Laurent Desbiens cyclosportive weekend.
And there's all those lovely winter reliability rides coming up soon (including the "Hell of the Ashdown" sportive) in Jan/Feb.
Will probably also be doing some UK sportives as 'fillers' (e.g. the Southern Sportive, which is a pretty good course, though not really FWC league).[/url]0 -

Don't feel too bad, there were a LOT more riders this year - look at what % beat you each year and you'll feel better.....I did0
