Going to have surgery on my snapped collar bone on tuesday, I've gotta have at least 3 weeks off the bike which means SUPER BOREDOM. Obviously  I'd put this time into cross training - but what? mobility is going to be limited and i cant lift with 2 hands.... any ideas??
Thanks!
Thanks!

I broke mine a couple of years ago fella and I know everyone is different but I found i could turbo train quite happily with it in the sling after 2 weeks and was on the road after 4. So it ain't all bad.
The guy who was organising the race i broke it in said that Rob Hayles had rung him after he broke his and was back on his bike with a pin in after 2 weeks.
So listen to your body, take care, rest up and a get a good bond going in the break, but don't be afraid of trying ot do a ride when you feel you can."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Hi there.
Get ShepSO to set up a turbo trainer for you?

Just relax and enjoy the rest it will do you good.
I am recovering from an elbow op so had 6 weeks off the road. Not worried as I will be more motivated in the new year and will get base miles in then.0 -
ps It's different for pro athletes... It's their livliehood and they get paid for riding - I'm guessing Shep doesn't!
A couple or three years ago I broke my thumb the same day as Roger Hammond. Mine was in plaster for 6 weeks - he rode Paris-Roubaix that weekend!0 -

Maybe you're right, the time off will allow me to get rid of this damn cough.
I'm going to be bored though. And the missus has gone back to Canada for xmas!0 -
Andrew, i deliberately didn't say "get up of the sofa you idler, if you can walk you can pedal!"
Was merely saying that it's not as bad as it seems, and that recovery can be quicker than you expect. I also advised that he take it steady and listen to his body (something I regret not doing when I had my elbow wired together and rode the marmotte 4 weeks later)"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

three weeks is nothing - especially at this time of year. Just enjoy the time off and take up bird watching, or something. I broke mine a week before the divisional RR champs and was off the bike for five weeks in peak season - I can't tell you how frustrating it was watching all that hard-earned race fitness just slipping away...0 -
