Parklife, Worthing - THE best post-ride cakes EVER!! 8)

(that black star is about 8" tall, just to get some perspective! )
  • In no particular order...

Bara Brith. With lashings of butter on of course.

The coffee and walnut cake they sometimes have at Llandegla visitor centre cafe.

My mums crimbo cake. She bakes them in September and then seals them in cling film until the end of October when she opens them injects a rather generous amount of brandy and wraps them again until mid December.

    Roll on christmas!!!

Anything without nuts. Cake's not quite worth dying for. Close thing though...
  • I would say a nice bit of Parkin but I've eaten so much of it in the last couple of months I've kind one gone off it...

However... for cycling and general outdoor needs, nowt beats a slab of Kendal Mint Cake

    Chocolate coated if possible... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Put me down for some carrot cake.

Not a cake, but I love any crumble, especially with custard.

C'mon God, did you really have to make gluttony a sin? :(

NWallace is quite right about Fisher and Donaldson's Fudge Doughnuts - anyone who has spent time in St Andrews, Cupar or Dundee misses these wonders most when they move away.

I've eaten so many of them over the last 25 years that I now have a taste memory for them. Right now, I can feel the sugary coating giving way under my teeth, the gush of cold creme anglaise, the soft forgiving doughnut cushioning my bite. I can feel the slight stickiness on my fingers as the last morsel goes in. Mmmmmmmmmm Cake!

I once met the man who puts the custard into them. It's his job to do that. A holy task. I touched the hem of his garment!

Where's that? I've ridden past Llandegla loads of times and never spotted the place- a missed cake opportunity!
  • My Mums cakes seem to just evaporate, especially her choccie Sponge with choccie sauce in the middle :D or her Vicky sponge with Jam and Cream (down Popette). Also another for anything Crumble and custard 8) and Jamaica ginger cake (McVities) and custard, easy & perfect post ride recovery meal on cold night rides.
  • This is making me hungry just reading it. My favourite cake is dependant on location and time.
Panatorte bought from the Italian Deli just down the road from Christchurch Priory. Eaten in the sunshine on the Quay.
Heaven on Earth in a pub in Blashford after cycle through the Forest. These are just 2 that spring to mind.

I find double cream is brilliant on most things - when I was pregnant I liked it on cereal!
