I went four layers on my torso at 5.30 this morning and it made me late for work. Damn.

    Ok I'll ask

How did it make you late for work?

Just two for me. A ribbed merino wool base layer and a windproof Altura jacket. Doesn't sound like much, but it's surprisingly effective, I was toasty warm!

    4 layers!

Sounds like you need to reconsider your clothing, thats sounds pretty excessive.

I got too hot so had to slow down. Having a bit of a cold didn't help, i couldn't face setting off feeling chilly so i kept putting on clothes till i felt comfortable: big mistake, i should know better.

3/4 length dhb bib tights, Old tee shirt, Sombrio 3/4 length baggies or Endura Hummvee 3/4/ length baggies, Rugby socks, Thinsulate gloves and a Endura Hi vis jacket - thats yer lot. I "enhance" with arm warmers or full length tights or even 2 tee shirts!

Supposed to get real cold soon!
  • Helly long sleeve, a mid-weight fleece & gilet. Baggies. Felt fine.

I have only worn my tights once this winter & I felt too hot. cor get me!

  • A pair of bid tights and a warm jacket, so just the one layer (unless you count the bid tights ??)

A pair of woolie boolie socks and some shimano winter boots.

    Warm as toast

Thick socks, bib tights, DHB jersey (fairly snuggly), Descente windproof jacket. Being bald is no fun on mornings like today, though.

polyester tshirt and Aldi winter top and matching aldi bike tights - no worries

also wearing gore gloves (a bit rubbish tho) and an assos headband which I would heartily reccomend to everyone, they keep your ears and forehead warm but allow the heat to vent so you don't get sweaty

LewisKit baselayer, club jersey, with Altura Night Vision jacket on top. Fleeced running tights with bib shorts over the top, an Assos thermal hat over my Assos (I know, I might be affected :) ) cap, fleecey gloves, LewisKit merino wool socks, neoprene overshoes. Nice and toasty.

It's not the number of layers that bothers me it's how long it takes to get ready at both ends that annoys me, grrrrr!

Three - assuming cold snap was still with us. Turned out it wasn't, so had a slow ride in today to avoid boiling. Maybe it will be colder this evening!

I finally plucked up the BALLS to get out of the house, sweet baby jebuz how cold is it today, my face almost fell off. I being a complete fool checked the metoffice website for all four of my local weather stations, no sign of rain - I get half a mile up the road and it pours down, doh!

Anyway it turned out to be a most enjoyable wet and muddy ride.

5 layers. 1 endura merino base layer with my dhb bib tights on top of that followed by my helly hansen base layer and then another base layer on top of that and finally my gill fleece lined mtb long sleeve jersey. I was just nice and cosy though it was by far my slowest commute of the year into a really vicious headwind. Took me nearly 15 mins longer than my normal 45min commute and on a slightly higher average heart rate so it wasn't as if I was putting any less effort though I was carrying much more than usual in my bag (full gym gear including trainers & parcel I needed to send off). Can't wait for the ride home. Hopefully I will just get pushed along - won't even have to pedal

I too get rather bored with all the layering up and pulling off. Might get myself one of those thick jackets and base layers and see how I get on with that.
  • I had one layer more than I intended: t-shirt and jumper because I was out of long-sleeved tops. So that made three layers on top, two below (jeans and leggings).
