Newbie question about function on the forks!

Hi I've got a Carrera fury that has Rock Shox Tora 318 U-Turn fork, I am clueless about the functions on them and the purpose, obviously I know the dial with the padlock on it is for locking and unlocking the suspension, but what is the travel for?what is the difference between being set high or low? and there is a picture of a hare and a tortoise next to a metal dial at the bottom of the forks, what is this and what's it for?

If you bought the bike brand new it should have come with the manual
But they were fox, I have not had to do anything with them pumped up the shock thats about it.

Have a read of the manual, and if you get stuck post back and people can explain the features in more detail. Remember the fork you have is the Tora 318 Uturn coil with no poplock.
