Last night I commuted home as normal.....sat down and watched the match.

What did everyone think of Englands performance last night?

did ok given it was nearly a reserve side... deserved to win overall

Nice to see Terry taking the fall for Carsons mistake

(I like the way the OP started the thread).

Having watched the match yesterday I didn't give it much thought until I commuted to work this morning. During my commute and thoughts of England I concluded that:

For years I've been bored watching England football team play (never forget the match I watched where I feel into a deep sleep then woke up only to find that the match had just got into the second half  ).

I loved this match because for the first time in a long time it seemed like 11 players wearing England shirts were playing with hope and confidence and a knowing that no one's place in the squad is guaranteed.

With the influx of cheaper foriegn imports I thought the English footballer was in demise, this gives hope that the next generation might actually be exciting.

Well, nobody is discussing it in Cakestop anyway. I commuted home in the car as usual and watched the match. It was refreshing to watch an England match where you don't constantly live in fear of them screwing up. They played with confidence and assurance pretty much for the whole game. We weren't clinging on and defending on our own 6 yard line which is what usually happens. I actually enjoyed watching it which hasn't happened much before Capello took over. We kick ars now!
  • I suppose it was just a friendly so the Germany side was experimental (as was England's), but I think we learned that Carson is not international class yet. Maybe he will improve with age like David James.

Don't think Ashley Young was given enough time, and was hoping to see Jimmy Bullard come on for a bit.

    Darrent Bent was disapppointing again.

Agbonlahor was promising, I'd like to see him play with Rooney as we can't rely on Heskey forever.

Carrick looked good, maybe he should play ahead of Lumpard?

I was impressed - we gelled for the first time in years. Great to see a bit of a mis-match of players making it happen together.

Except for last night where we became the first team to beat Germany on home soil since 1973......

Good performance with a balanced side, it was good to see natural width in the team, it was also a perfect example that shows 11 good 'team' players can play better than 11 great 'individual' players.....

Is there a prize for that? World cup? Now the European champions?? Or possibly just the fans who will happily get carried away every two years with talk of winning whilst Scotland and all other nations that are 'Scotland in disguise' giggle at your attempts and shake our heads whilst the fans throw chairs in squares...

    I didn't watch it.

    We are sh1t at football.
Our players are paid vast sums for being sh1t.
We haven't won anything since 1966.
We won't win anything until 2066.

UnworthyPapa...etc and WheezyMcChubby - if "we" are not going to win anything, who are "you" and what have you won?

Very grand stuff from the single time world cup winners (all games in your back graden with a dodgy ref/goal)!!!

I love Norn Iron/Scotland/Wales fans. You always assume we think we're the fkin bees knees when infact we've all commented about how nice it is to see us playing well for the first time in ages (except of course for my obvious tongue in cheek remark). I think Clever Pun sums it up. Its decent result, on the back of a few other decent results, and we're currently looking good. Not exactly wobbly foundations for a bit of optimism. You lot, on the other hand, are still as sht as you ever were. I'm willing to bet that in my lifetime you'll achieve fck all. Get used to it and go support some sport where you might win something. Curling for example.

    No...

What did we get from the game? another win in a good run, which shows progress. I do agree England have underachieved for years now, but what have Scotland ever done?

As for Maradonna....if you back him as a sportsman then I guess you think EPO should be available over the counter. He cheated and got away with it and if you support that you truly are a fool

Hmmm, I wonder what Chris Hoy would think of that statement. Coming from another cyclist as well! tut tut.

I also love the fact that Scotland bend over and welcome Argentina with open ars cheeks just cus they fcked England over once upon a time. Thats a losers mentality if ever I saw one. I expect they were embarrassed to score more than one goal because it was like fking an ugly nympho i.e gratefully accepted but not really that satisfying so you only do it once and leave in a hurry.

I'm well aware of Chris Hoys excellent achievements but I doubt he'd want to be associated with such a stoopid attitude and so I don't include him in this discussion.

  • I saw a bit of the football. They did okay in the end, although it looked very wobbly at the beginning. And at the very end too, what with the Danes rattling the ball off the our woodwork. Still, a 1-0 win from a decent performance isn't to be scoffed at.

Oh, wait. Are you talking about a different game? 8)

    And breatheee....

Apologies for my anger. Just that, at the weekend, I spent a night in my local putting up with some bad humoured old bstard muttering obscenities about the English. The whole attitude makes me sick.

Lovely sunset here btw. Pinks and reds. Lovely.

He handled the ball and a goal was given by the ref.

The Ref should have disallowed and booked him.

    He didn't.
