Cyclocross warm-up on turbo?

This may seem a bit of a strange one, but if I want to use my turbo to warm-up for a 'cross race I can one of 3 things.
Which would you suggest?

1) use the Shimano QR/wheel/'cross tyre that I will be racing on.

2) as above but replace Shimano QR with one that is especailly for the turbo.

3) buy a seperate wheel/turbo tyre just for warm-up.

4) use my spare rear wheel/'cross tyre, which I will have to put back in the pits.

5) buy some rollers.

Thanks all.

  • take your second bike along for the turbo, you're just using the turbo as a dynamic warm-up. I'd also look at stretching dynamically too.

    Hi there.

If you're going to take a second bike to a cross race, then you'll want to have it set up with cross tyres and waiting in the pits, which leaves you with the same question as you had to start with.

A spare wheel with a slick tyre seems to be the best option if you want to use a turbo.

By far the better option (if possible) is to warm up by riding the course - that way you'll get a chance to learn the best lines in advance. If there is another race on the course beforehand then I usually just go for a ride around the park/surrounding roads.

As for stretching - I don't see what benefit that'll give you on race day.

    Cheers, Andy
