Its a massive floody thing - my Fenix are far more concentrated and you get tunnel vision a bit with them - fine for road - and plain off road - but if you need to choose lines a bit better.0

Yeah, I was doing my first full dark riding with the tesco crees at the weekend, and it was absoultely fine while I was caning it but I dropped my pace for deep mud, and what was just in the right spot before was suddenly too far away. Thank god for waterproof socks!
(I did discover that a cheap commuter headlight pointed upwards at about 45 degrees is a good branch alarm though )Uncompromising extremist0 -
I think branches are lower at night !0

Just buy the aurora posted, ive been looking at this as a better replacement for the mte ssc, at the time they weren't out so opted for the former.
Most p7's will run longer than an hour but you lose light after that and it's not recommended to really hammer the battery as the torches don't use a pwn when voltage gets below tolerance so you would be relying on the short circuit protection on the battery itself, once that goes it's bye bye battery.
Im stunned there are still so many what light threads popping up.The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

I HAVE a helmet light. It just sucks (ancient petzl head torch with a Tesco torch on the top- but the Tesco beam is very tight at short range, while the petzl doesn't make a lot of light. A bar mounted flood should fill the gap nicely.Uncompromising extremist0 -
First time i have noticed this thread, i have a few DX torches MCE, P7, Q5 and P4 and they all seem pretty waterproof, my mce has been dropped in a jug of orange squash and survived with no problems whatsoever. So just because its hasnt got a rating like a fenix doesnt mean it isnt actually waterproof. These torches are at this price due to the lack of testing and overheads involved with getting a IP4 or whatever waterproof rating.
I currently use a 736lumen MTE-MCE on my head thats a spot, a 180lumenTR801-Q5 spot and a 750 lumen MTE P7-D flood on the bars and a 80 lumen Silva L1 also on my head. Compares if not beats in output to my mates Betty 7 (1400 lumens) which cost £550 while my setup cost about £150, less than £100 if i didnt have the L1. With med modes and a few spare 18650's i have never run out of light, although my rides tend to be sub 3 hrs in the dark anyway!
Lumen values are actual putput not manufacturer rated!
And for mounting, if you get a new bike use the bell fitment coupled with the rear reflector fitting to make a good mount!0 -
What you often find with non-waterproof lights is that they let a little moisture in over time, condensation maybe? I get this with the tescos, but all I do is open them up every once in a while and let them dry out, not really an issue. They're rainproof, even reservoir proof (don't ask) they're just not all-day-outside-in-winterproofUncompromising extremist0
