IS THIS SOME KIND OF JOKE?
What is it with people who cant use the search function,
BUY A FENIX LIGHT, I got a TK11 and its awsome 50.00 with batteries.
Oh also if you read the thread it says MIGHT surrvive a downpour and its not waterproof, do you live in the desert?
I can stick my light in the bath underwater and its fine.0 -
No, it is no joke
this light has been consistently recommended and now someone has kingly provided a review. You never know, this think might be better then the Fenix. It's considerably cheaper."Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0 -
Oh ok.
Got to buy from hong kong, it takes weeks to arrive, it wont handle heavy rain.
Sounds good to me.
Pay the extra for the pure waterproof fenix and yes it might cost an extra 10enner, but got mine the next day free delivery from the UK.
And if its good enough for the US police and swat it must be good.
Check candlepowerforum.com if you want some reliable user reviews for torch use.
But each to their own0 -

This is similar to the light I have. (MET version) It is fully waterproof. It is cheaper than a fenix TK11. It is brighter than a Fenix TK11.
You can get 2 for the price of a fenix, that is over 1200 lumens!0 -
Oh, it took 4 days to arrive.0
-
As you said you bought, and there has been discussions on this before.
You have mentioned this on other threads, so its simple do a search.
But then again if you do a search on say hope stems it does not bring up hope stem threads.it brings up stuff like wheels and lights and commute helmets.
The search is very weak so Cant really blame people for post hundreds of threads about lights.
Sorry :oops:0 -
That is not why you had a pop at spiderman, it was because he didn't get a Fenix ;-)
And this torch is slightly different from the one I have, it is not the same. It is a useful review. There are a few P7 torches available with differing reflectors that give better or worse patterns for biking, as pointed out by Dazzza. These seems to be a good one, along with the one we got.
Another option, I am sure if you found a Tk11 mark 2 you would post a link ;-)0 -

Not overly impressed with my Fenix, it's OK but certainly not amazing. Waiting for the other P7 LEDs to come out and hoping someone packages them properly.0

You can get a p7 with better optics, circuitry and battery - the Lupine tesla 4 at £300...
Is brighter and longer lasting, but paying £275 for the 'properly' done thing.0 -
Well got to try my P7 out last night.Tried it bar mounted using the clamp from my Blackburn X3 and also tried helmet mounted. As stated elsewhere,it provideds a very nice flood, easily good enough to tackle singletrack or even a bit of light downhill.
I was considering buying another but I`m not sure I need it.
I have tried the Fenix P3D (very similar to the L2D) and this is much brighter, and has a much better flood.
Contrary to some opinions,it is actually quite well constructed,I`d say almost as good as the Fenix.(ut at half the price)
If you are on a budget try one.I was actually quite sceptical as to how good it could be,but given its ony £25 for the actual light I thought there was little to risk.In fact my experience so far has been wholly positive.
The service from deal extreme was very good too.I would have received mine in 7 days, had I not changed the order for the batteries and been out at the time of the first delivery.
BTW differences between the c bin and normal 2 mode MTE SSC P7s are neglible,so either works fine.If you want to learn more follow the thread on cheap lights on the mtb-britain forum.2006 Giant XTC

If you're worried about waterproofing, a tube of silicon grease costs about 90p from Maplin, smear it round the seals and threads and you should be good to go.Uncompromising extremist0

Why does it never rain in Hong Kong? :?0 -
I don't get it... The review says "It’s not a true underwater lamp but these kind of flashlights have a good reputation in the rain and mine certainly survives a downpour.", so where is "won't handle heavy rain" coming from?Uncompromising extremist0

I said its not waterproof, and might not last in the rain.
British weather you might as well be able to put it in the bath to make sure
All I am saying is next day delivery and proven lights like the TK11 or other fenix brands are tried and tested by people who are torch freaks.
Check the candlepower forum, I have not seen a review on cheap hong kong stuff, but hey I could be wrong.
But for me, and my opinion only, I have read many reviews saying the TK11 came out on top, and other fenix lights for the price.
Just putting in my two cents, thats what forums are for, listen dont listen, the buyer and the thread author is the one that will buy what he or she thinks is best.0 -
From what i have read - the deal extreme torch build quality is not as good as the fenix - but you would expect that for the price.
Should be getting my torch this week so will do a direct comparison. I know the fenix torches withstand a hosing- may not try that with the cheap one !0 -
Took my DX SSC P7 out last night in all manner of rain and crud, and appeared to be just fine.

On the subject of lights - anyone used these?
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... QAWidgetID
Or can anyone else recommend any of the Halfords ones?
Getting my b2w voucher soon and looking to pick up some lights from there too with the spare cash.
Don't need anything too serious, no DH sort of stuff, just decent entry-level ones to get started0 -
I've got one of the EL320 lights and have been more than happy with its performance but would use in for any serious night time 'offroading'.0

dude....have you ever been to hong kong......its not the rain that gets you.....its the total humidity all the time. Shower, dry in front of air con.....step away from air con.....soaked.
Year round average humidity in the morning is over 80%, in the afternoon it drops to just over 70%.... Thats year round averages. even with all our rain, it is not as wet in the UK as it is in hong kong...
You can think of Hong Kong then as one big bath for testing all the electronics!Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

Well now I have an MTE 900 lumen torch to compare to my Fenix. Build quality is better than I'd heard - I may not go scuba diving with it - but I'm pretty sure it would stand up to a wet MTB ride.0 -
I've got a p7 dealextreme torch- very good as a bar mounted light due to great flood0
-
I think my P7 is cursed - got it 2 weeks ago and I've been full of cold ever since - so not tested it out properly at night.
Maybe this week....0 -
Buy the Aurora P7, very solid build, as good as a MagLite, O rings on the head and tail, burns for 1.5hrs on a single 18650 and remains bright to the end, looks like someone turned the sun back on.

With a helmet mounted WF-400 3W Cree and a couple of spare 18650's from DX you have almost 1200 lumens at your disposal.
As regards riding in the cold, it's not cold wrapped in cheap winter cycle clothing from Lidl and a snood. Riding off road in the pitch black lit only by my LEDs and listening to loud music on the MP3 is a fantastic experience. Shame my commute isn't as much fun.'nulla tenaci invia est via'

Isnt that Aurora pretty much the same as the P7 at the start of this thread ? Although it seems to have a shorter run time ? 50 mins as opposed to 60 ?0
-
P7 is the type of LED used, they all come from the Seoul Semiconductor Co then manufacturers build the torch around the LED.
As with everything, some do it well, others poorly, different bezels, reflectors, pills, pcbs, etc a torch with a P7 LED could be compared with Skoda/SEAT/VW/AUDI, they're all similar underneath. My Aurora runs for 90mins on one 18650 battery on full power by the way.'nulla tenaci invia est via'

OK, so rather than start the ten millionth "what light" thread, can anyone recommend an inexpensive light/torch for floodlight/close range? I have distance beams well sorted (3 Tesco crees) which is more than adequate for open trails but for up close nadgery technical stuff they fall short- too beamy. So I'd like to add one more to the mix, which is to do nothing but produce short range illumination. Any outstanding choices?Uncompromising extremist0
