Wonder if anyone can point me at preferences between a CycleOps Fluid 2 and a Tacx Sirius turbo trainer (or CycleOps Magneto for that matter)....
I'm a newbie and wanna keep going while the weather's rubbish and I don't want to be out while its lashing down, I normally ride 3 - 5 times a week, about 15 miles a go and I don't want the weather stopping me... I'm not 'training for racing' anything like that, just good fitness.
These are the ones I've picked out from what I can find on the net £100 - £150 best prices,
Any advice/experience of these would be welcome.

I bought myself a Tacx Speedmatic at lunchtime (£84.99). I shall have a play tonight and report back tomorrow. Although this may be of no use whatsoever as it's not one you are consiidering
It does get a decent write up in Cycling Plus though and at £84 from JE James (rrp £119) I couldn't resistWind. Cold. Rain. Pick two.0 -
Well, I found out all I could myself and bought a Minoura VFS-GR today, combination of 'mag' and 'fluid' so its variable resistance (with a remote) and progressive too... this seemed to make sense to me and 9/10 review at Cycling Plus.
I could see some people saying its not so good 'out of the saddle' as the roller doesn't clamp to it, its the weight of the bike that creates the pressure there but I'm sure it'll be okay based on the review... they also said it was no fuss cos of the automatic nature of the contact... we'll see... I have nothing to compare it to anyway.0 -
This is an old post but im also interested in either a CycleOps Fluid 2 or a Tacx Sirius. To be honest the reviews for the Tacx seem better.
Does anyone have either and can comment on personal use, or maybe something else in the same price bracket?Cycling never gets any easier, you just go faster - Greg LeMond0 -
No personal experience, but this gets good reviews on the wiggle website.

Can I also ask, are the turbo's mentioned in this thread (or similar) quiet enough to use in the front room, whilst the misses is watching TV?0 -
I have a CycleOps Fluid 2.
I'm very happy with it, too.
I use it in my lounge, with the TV on, but it would probably annoy the wife, if she was trying to watch TV!
It isn't loud, but not totally silent, either, so would cause annoyance to anyone else, I think...Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0 -

I have the wireless version and its good (a much more pleasant experience than my old Tacx Swing), but the resistance changes as the unit heats up (resistance reduces). I notice it when doing 2 x 20 min intervals - I have to up my cadence by around 5-10rpm (which in turn increases the 'power' that the unit displays by 20-30 'Watts') for the second interval. What I haven't yet worked out though is whether there's a smaller change in resistance during the intervals.
I suspect though that this affects most if not all fluid trainers.More problems but still living....0
