How much does build matter?

There have been trends in the size of TdF winners. If you look back at the Golden Age as it were, they tended to be not too far away from 70kg. Big Mig was exceptional at 80kg, but I think you could see it limited his ability to attack in the mountains.
These days, there seems to be a trend towards smaller riders in the Tour as their absolute power is improving and their power/weight goes through the roof. Lemond has some well known views on this, of course !
But for the classics, there seems to be a preference for big strong guys.0 -

Threshold power is the thing you should be worried about, not weight.
I'm 5' 5" and 11.6 stone  (i put a little on whilst off the bike ok!!)
I'm not so worried about the weight itself I was 11st 2 when I completed Marmotte this year but more so about getting a fat %/content balance. Now that's noe I need to address over the winterhttp://twitter.com/mgalex
