I'm very tempted by this, and it actually (kind of) fits into my ultra scehdule.
Anyone else want to play?
SCR group ride?
I was thinking of the 100k, but if people from here are interested, but only in the 50k, I'd go for that instead...

1st off sorry I didn't make it out this morning, but seein' yer here, I guess you didn't either
Couple of points...It has HELL in the title.....doesn't sound like fun and the word "hills" seems to be mentioned repeatedly...what are these "hills" they speak of? Finally it says "Kent's premier test of bike and rider" see again, that sounds like hard work, not exactly 13 miles of car commuter game playing is it?

Nope - I have decided to actually attempt a run today - I haven't been bothered with running for ages, so really need to make an effort to get back into it. Just about to leave now.
Hills - they're like flats, but easier
Come on...it'll be fun. We can do the 50k?0 -
It looks like the 50k is already full - when I entered it gave me no option to pick a start time for the 50k.
So I entered the 110k
Starting at 10.20 if anyone does want to join in...0 -
You are clearly mad.....0
-
The mate from work who gave me his ribble is doing this. He is a serious club cyclist so I figured that as a mere commuter it would not be suitable for mePain is only weakness leaving the body0

The general public view cycle commuting as a bit eccentric, by the time you're posting in SaRR they think you're full-on barking and baying at the moon.
I used to be a commuter, but I'm all right na...ooooooo...
Jen, you go girl. Soon you'll have so many scalps that you'll be able to make a coat (and give the poor Dalmations a much needed break)*.

I don't "do" hills, but it's in 3 months time - 3 months ago I didn't "do" biking.
(although yesterday I accidentally did a lots of hills on the fixie, and didn't resort to walking up)
No idea on time, but would guess at maybe up to 5 hours, depending on hilliness? I'm definitely not doing it to race - it's two weeks after a 45 mile run, and the week before a 50 mile run, so it's supposed to be a recovery weekend for me!
I'm sure you'll want to bring your brand new bike for a test run0 -

Extract from rider's insructions:Before – Preparation needed to ensure you’re fit enough. Dress for winter conditions. Carry: a drink; iron rations; route sheet; spare tube(s) & tyre levers; basic tools. Make sure you have a low enough bottom gear for a 25% gradient. Check your brakes.0 -

He's saying have this fab road bike and give it a go...!
I have a suitable training route for you
Chingford-.Loughton->Robin Hood Rbout->High Beech->Lippits Hill->Sewardstone Road->Mansfield Hill (if you want a real challenge do it in reverse!!!!)
Then build it up till you can do it 6 times. It's what I'll be doing providing Seven Sisters Rd don't get me mid week until February.[1]Ribble winter special
[2] Trek 5200 old style carbon
[3] Frankensteins hybrid FCN 80 -
Just had a look at that ride and I'm very interested...........the 100K would be a good challenge as it's longer then my last charity ride (just shy of 60 miles) and looks a lot hillier, which is a sadistic way is what is drawing me to it!
I might try and get the route map as I don't live that far away from Biggin Hill..........
Hmm, might have to start sounding the other half out on this to see if I can get a day release to flog myself silly!
EDIT: To correct typo0 -
By the looks of it you'll have to be quick - easier to seek forgiveness than to ask permission?Emerging from under a big black cloud. All help welcome0

They've gone quickly - there were 29 when I entered yesterday.0 -
Meh, February is too early in the sportive season for me! I've got an all inclusive week in Turkey booked for mid Jan, not ideal prep.
Now it's not handy for London but if any SCR folk on here are interested in Sportives then I highly recommend the Dragon Ride in Wales, it's fantastic.
