Its basically using the slip stream of a larger object to aid prepulsion of your bike. During drafting, you'll feel like you have a tail wind and you'll reach faster speeds than normal. You basically eliminate wind resistance, and use the air rushing in behing the vehicle you're drafting to your advantage.

Thanks. Thought that may be the case, judging by the threads on the subject; yet I was a bit confused coz some people refer to it as "draughting" and others as "drafting".

  • A new one I discovered at the LBS the othe rday is "Fred". Apparently, the term is used to denote a rider with more money sunk into his sport than skill or ride time. I personally don't find this term fair though as most people I know named Fred are cheapskates and none of them ride...
This side of the pond we use the term "All the gear and no idea" to denote someone who has dropped some serious money on a bike without the first clue how to use one :-)
Or the more generic LOMBARD. Loads Of Money But A Right Dickhead.

Can I put forward two suggestions:

PoB - pedestrian on a bike. A "cyclist" who rides as though s/he is walking, along pavements and across pedestrian crossings.

MoB - motorist on a bike. A "cyclist" who is a perfectly adequate, or even good, driver but who thinks none of the stuff that earned him/her a driving licence applies when s/he's on a bike. Runs red lights, rides the wrong way up one-way streets and shouts at pedestrians daring to use pedestrian crossing when s/he is trying to pass. Lacks any sense of lane discipline or road sense when cycling.
