  • Besides I didn't bring it up first,

O real nice...first sign of trouble and you're pointing fingers. The Three Musketeers would be down to two with that kind of attitude.

    <insert witty comment here>

Also, I have calculated my FCN as 12...although I have no idea what that actually means.

As a fellow hater of head winds I thought you might find this site useful, not that you can do anything about it but at least you know what you gonna be up against.

During a training ride yesterday the head wind was really going for it so much so I got off the bike to check my brakes weren't rubbing  no such feking luck, and it seems if you ride the ridges of hills then you will encounter a head wind regardless of your direction of travel - WTF is up with that crap, I must look totally mental cycling along legs spinning with virtually no speed whilst shouting at the "WIND"

Bar ends on MTBs are a gateway drug - before you know it you'll be own a 14lb full carbon sliver of a road bike that costs as much as your house

Just back from a quick ride 44MPH gusts - at what point do they STOP being gusts and become a storm wind or something equally nasty - I had to stand up whilst pedalling on the flat

  • I think storm winds are more constant than gusts.

No no no... that won't help.

My pedlin' technique in a strong wind is to keep pushing and try to make myself as leeeetle as possible - my pretend aero bars come in handy.

That's a good idea but then I'd only have to turn back around and come home which is uphill all the way - I'm guessing downhill with a serious tail wind would be fun if I had a car equipped with bike carrier waiting at the bottom, oh say in the pub car park

Yep, I don't actually have a bike... I just run around in cycle lanes going 'wheeeeeee'!

Tides are dictated by the sun and moon, though they can be influenced by the wind.

I love riding in strong winds, i was lifted a few feet sideways during a gale.

would have been less fun had I been on the road, mind.

Now that I've managed to stem mount my computer, (really shouldn't have taken more than 5 seconds  ), my pretend aero bars have also been put back on, unfortunately my imagination doesn't stretch to pretend padding on the arm rests!

    MTFU, sit down and pedal!

Sorry, it's just that no-one has come in with that yet...........

Of course I'm not even sure if I've ever experienced 44mph gusts of wind, let alone tried cycling in them so chapeu for actually managing to keep moving!

I had a memorable incident on Waddington Fell, in Lancashire, a few years ago. I was slaving away, forcing the pedals round along a long straight stretch of road which looked flat in my eyes. I stopped once and checked the brakes, no they weren't rubbing. Carried on, still a huge effort for a flat road, so I stopped again, opened up the rear brakes and spun the wheel - it must be the hub - no, it span freely. Only then did I look behind me and see a sign warning of the 1:8 gradient I'd just climbed.

I swear, it looked flat as I came up it. I've been back there since and it doesn't look like a 1-in-8 (but still feels like it). It's a phantom hill!

I totally made up for it yesterday - I did the 26 mile hilly route (is there any other kind) to the in-laws house "Single Speed" averaging 19.7MPH - GET IN

And there was more in the tank, isn't t just the greatest thing about cycling, you have those pants gale force wind rides where you seem to be pedalling backwards then the very next day you feel like you could give Lance a run for his money

Today brought LOTS OF WIND and it was great. Why? Because in spite of rumours to the contrary, I found a TAILWIND and I absolutely flew home. I had afterburners. :D
Not often it happens, but I'll take what I can get. Made having to go into work afterwards worthwhile...

News just in - In back from my ride and I can confirm that no matter which direction I went I had a full on head wind, I even turned around

All I can assume is that Marlborough and the surrounding area is some kind of freaky swirling wind tunnel, more research is needed.

Still it was a good ride until the temp dropped suddenly, wind gusts picked up and it started raining, time to head home.
