Training grumbles

Yesterday was pretty horrible weather wise, so I planned a turbo session in the evening. Unfortunately for me, not having a spare wheel to set my own bike up on the machine, I have to stick with my Dad's old mercian with the seat post pushed up. After about 5 minutes of warm up my legs were in all kinds of unnatural pain and I thought 'screw this'. Trying to work out on something that you just don't fit isn't an option
So I rode around the lanes that were covered in equal parts with the innevitable consequences of farm traffic and rainwater. I enjoyed my ride, but had to spend a good half hour cleaning endless much off my bike afterwards!
Stupid me, I'll buy some 'guards today and I can't wait till I get my rollers!
Hope you're enjoying the autumn!

It's lovely isn't it? My spec is hooked up to the turbo for the long run now. I went out yesterday on my training bike in all the rain, wind and shig and after half an hour I broke the zip on my wind/rain jacket. God knows how it snapped, so I had to ride with it open for the rest of the time. I decided at that point, that in order to keep warm, I'd just go up and down the four mile climb I do regularly five times. It's very, very steep in places (15-20%), and the wind was determined to rip my already busted jacket fully off. Anyway, amounted to about 1 hour 40 of climbing, 40 odd minutes of descending, whilst racing in and out of the lorries that were going up and down the hill, dumping soil at the top in the car park up there. Don't worry, the roads are wide for almost all of the climb, so no danger apart from the odd cow standing in the road around corners. Made up another half an hour riding home, nearly run over by a bearded man in a little red car just not looking where he or I was going. He tried to pull out in front of me when it was my right of way and nearly sent me flying! I got home, dripping wet, towelled down, put on a clean pair of socks, and went straight out on the turbo for and hour with my heart rate between 140 and 160. Bloody good training day.0

I've been in this awful cycle (arf!) for a year now where every time i get some decent training in for 2 or 3 weeks something stupid happens and i'm off the bike for ages.
Just missed a week due to my BB falling to pieces and needing a campag cup tool, BB tool, new cups and a tin of plus gas to fix it. It just gets me down."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

disgruntledgoat,
you obviously need more bikes sounds like a good excuse to me. Either that or switch to shimano ....
... I'll get my coat--

I was about to suggest shimano! I'll get my coat too .0 -
You guys!
I'm building up an Orbea Onix over the winter. It's my motivation to get back to racing form. Going well at the moment though, i'm getting all the planned sessions. And the twin boons of turbo training are that i get to watch an episode of The Wire for every session and that i look forward to going out on winter roads at weekends!"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"
