First of all..................my deepest sympathies. Broken ribs are the most painful thing I've ever had to endure.
3 years ago I hit some ice on the Horseshoe Pass in Wales, came off and landed on my rear mech. 2 broken ribs and I had to ride home....12 miles
There's very little you can do, and it can take up to 6 months to heal correctly depending on severity and position of fracture/s.
Buy yourself something new and expensive to cheer yourself up, you deserve it

    Hi there,

Its as the other guys say I am afraid they take wot they take we are all different.

Mate of mine gave his ribs a right good thump maybe two months ago at judo and he is still not 100% he didnt brake them just badly bruised and pulled muscles each time he tried coming back on the mat left him in pain.

Just rest up its sucks but not much else you can do.

    FWIW I've done it twice.

First time showing off to my girlfriend, now my wife, and took several weeks to heal. Was painful especially getting to sleep but otherwise wasn't too bad so wasn't off the bike.

Second time was pushing down hard on something using my chest and something went pop, several weeks again before I was OK fully but again kept riding.

As noted it just depends, I think when riding the bigger problm was taking deep breaths.

And coughing ! Stay away from people with coughs, you don't want to catch one....especially this time of year. Hurts like a bugger !

Gutted for you. Very painful and not nice. Painkillers and lots of them.

I came back from my Honeymoon with broken or cracked ribs.

Rather than bedroom antics, it was from waterskiing, where I wiped-out bigtime and landed on a ski.
I couldn't climb back into the boat, so two guys dragged me in, scaping me over the side - that did hurt

Took a couple of weeks before I could find a way to lie in bed (not on chest, not on back, not on left side, not on right side...err, now what ?)
And several months before I was right to run and so on.

Even 10 years on it's not quite right, I still feel something sometimes doing leg curls lying on my chest at the gym
