    2 minutes and 20 seconds quicker over 17 miles, the only difference to this Saturdays and the previous Saturdays ride was the fitting of the thinner tyres and inner tubes that were linked earlier in this thread.

    The difference was very noticeable, especially accelerating and uphill. If I can knock 2.20 off with just tyres then I am going to have to seriously think about a lighter bike. My current bike weighs between 13.5 and 14.6 kg (depending upon which web site you look at).

    That`s getting on for 30 pounds which is heavy.I think you should go the whole hog and get a half-decent road bike,I got one last year and it is so much more fun.
