The Clash

Saw the Clash a couple of times in seventies. Once at the Bristol Locarno when they were supported by the Slits and in London at the Rock Against Racism gig when Jimmy Pursey came on stage and ruined White Riot. The sheer intensity of that Bristol gig was just unbelievable. Never felt anything like it either before or since, although watching old footage of the Who in their heyday still bring a tingle to the spine. It must be the water in Shepherds Bush.0

Going by past reputations over the years. I would suggest Kelly Jones from the Stereophonics. He sounds that far up his own a##e, he needs a safety rope...
Now you're talking. Saw the Stranglers 15 times and some great gigs amongst them, but never since HC left. Didn't really fancy it after that.
Apparently, Cornwell is now quite good as a solo accoustic performer, but I haven't seen him on his own.
Both are still great live. I've seen Hugh twice recently, he plays a mixture of old Stranglers stuff mixed in with a few of his own material and both sound good. He tends to play smaller venues and the gigs are quite intermate. Saw the Stranglers at the Round House last year as part of their 30th annivesary. It was 30 years to the day since they first played there when I saw them. Would have been nice for Hugh to be there but couldn't ever see that happening.
Funny how they're always over looked in these 'punk' programmes. Were they really punks, many say no, more say yes. All I know is they are by way and far the best group ever to come out of that era, their music is still heard today in adverts, tv shows, on the radio etc, never got the true recognition they deserve. Still, that makes the cool in my book 8)0 -
what I find is amazing is how the Damned are overlooked, at the time they were neck and neck with the Pistols, definitely ahead of the clash in terms of punk credentials
nothing like packing it in for improving your reputation0 -
I went to see The Angelic Upstarts a couple of years ago. Just on the strength of when I was a teenager, the lad I worked on the milk round with, used to wear a leather with the tippex on the back. The police filmed everyone going in...it did look like a BNP rally, to be truthful. They were superb! Lot of muttering from the back when they did a anti-racism song, which was very funny.
Saw Kirk Brandon support Mike Peters (The Alarm) was a good gig.
Carter still touring then? Keep getting the promo stuff for Jim Bob's Stereoworld (or whatever it is...) Fruitbat still going with Abdoujapourov.
Ben Folds is worth seeing if you ever get the chance. He is supporting The Counting Crows later in the year, the big arena type gigs...not going to bother with that though!0 -

I saw the Damned twice, once at the Students Union in St Andrews which was surreal and once at the Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow, which was totally insane. Great venue, great gig and a near-death experience thrown in. I went down in what my kids now call the moshpit and, just before being trampled to death under a thousand 20-hole DM boots, I was plucked to safety by a six foot bloke with a mohican. Priceless.0 -

Carter did a couple of Reunion gigs last year and got offered another two this year but they are both still doing solo stuff, Jim has another album coming out early next year and Fruitbat is working on stuff as well.
Abdou are one of my favorite live acts0 -

The Stranglers play at the Villa Marina, Douglas on the Isle of Man on 28 Oct.
I must admit I laughed when I say the advert. it was like some kind of surreal joke.....
