My commute has gone from an average of 40 miles + return, back to 12 miles return...because I have a new puppy. Please cry for me Argentina...but celebrate the integration of "Wilma" into my house - she is a little darling.

Happily I'm bored as well, so here's my fiddling with your pic...

I think that they should have a part of Dragon's Den that is restricted only to crackpot inventors. It would be much more entertaining.
Collies never get tired, but it might get a little short of breath in 10-12 years. They should have mentioned this at the shop. Is it under guarantee?0 -

Our old dog Toby who was a Collie/Spaniel cross didn't start to tire out until he was 15...even then he would still go all out as much as he could...lasted until he was 18!

This photo...
...of my last dog, Judy, took 3 days to get - she was more interested in the camera, and what I was doing, than getting her piccie taken.
She lived to 19, chased a burglar and saved my father's life once!

My ex-boyfriend always used to own dogs (whippets and greyhounds) but he hated Collies . But then being a postman at the time they were a bit of a curse to him. If he was going to be bitten it was by a collie :shock:Officers don't run, it's undignified and panics the men0

Saw some Newfoundland puppies a while back. Talk about hard to leave without one.
Used to have a couple of Newf's some years back. After seeing those pups I will have
Newf's again, despite what the wife may want or not want.

I have a collie, mad marge, she's my running coach - she's always there trotting along in front of me telling me to 'come on!'
We also have 2 german shepherds, a doberman and a great dane.
Whether or not I'd get another collie or another doberman, I'm not sure, definitely would have another german shepherd, and another great dane.
All of these dogs live up in Essex, not in central london.0 -

I have a cat.... who, I have finally determined, has wee'd on my courier bag and not, as previously posted, my cycling gear.
At least he doesn't need walkies twice a day.0 -

We also have a cat in essex, a very small, angry rescue cat. She lures people with purring and headbutts then randomly attacks. She's like a cat-time-bomb...
And living with me both in London and Essex, I have a chinchilla called Fernando.0 -

You have jsut described all cats. They can't help it.
I just googled Fernando. He has an amazing double life.0 -

Presumably you didn't get it to empty it's bladder on your stuff. Do you have a vermin problem?A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject - Churchill0 -

Only in the sense that he keeps returning home with vermin in various states of demise.
I suspect that from years of sitting in the small of my back, my courier bag came to smell suspiciously like another cat. I can't say I noticed it myself, but then I'm not equipped with a vomeronasal. I can notice it now, though.
Cats are entertaining. The reward:investment ratio far exceeds that of dogs; i.e. you have to do virtually nothing to keep a cat, whereas a dog is about as much effort as running a small European country.
Accordingly, cats are more compatible with long hours and hobbies such as cycling.0 -

I guess I'll never understand cat lovers; it just seems to be feeding them and emptying their litter trays with very little back. :?A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject - Churchill0 -

Yes, you get way more from a dog, but the effort:reward ratio is still not as good. Thus, cat ownership is more efficient. Once my back and knees have had enough of cycling I'll take up hiking and get a dog.
No litter tray required. The remains of the aforementioned vermin are recycled into the environment. And before I get complaints, I live next to some undeveloped land on which one is far, far more likely to encounter dog sh!t than cat sh!t, despite the fact that it appears to be a cat super-highway.0 -
Not a cat fan either but love dogs - ours runs with me (better than I can), swims with me (in the sea) and loves coming out on our boat as well as being super obedient.
We now have a two week old boy so will be testing her character strengths to the limit!0 -
Cats don't wake you up at 5am for breakfast and walkies......they just sort themselves out - but I would not swap little Wlma for the world. She is "my precious" and I am happy to cut down my commute - the 72 miler was killing me slowly.0
-
Our dog woke us up once at 5.30am - the first day we got her at 8 weeks old.
Since then she waits for us to let her out and doesn't make a sound - just need training!
That collie is a lovely dog though - they just need strict training as they are quite highly strung (my parents have had two).0 -

But cats:
Sit on new born babies and suffocate them.
Randomly attack people.
Offer no emotional attachment at all.
Have foul food.
Are almost impossible to train.
Can't join you for physical activities like running/swimming.
Kill stuff and bring it into the house.
Meow incessantly.
Come in and take their food then naff off.
Wake you in the middle of the night with the most horrible noise ever when fighting.
Naah - dogs rule0 -

Pram safety and cot safety is important and you may find a cat net beneficial. Cats love warm areas and prams and cots can seem appealing! But on rare occasions cats have been known to suffocate babies if they get in on top of them, so discourage your cat from climbing into the pram or cot.

ooh a cats v. dogs debate - bring it on!
Obviously dogs are better than cats
And collies are mad, energetic and unpredictable. All the things I would like to be myself...Emerging from under a big black cloud. All help welcome0 -

Define "better". I grew up with dogs. Love them. Never got cats. Then I got cats. More to them than you might think. Very different to dogs, more restful. I think you have to own one to get it.
And if you are worried about animals around your kids....0 -
"better".....
1. non-retracting claws
2. don't walk on kitchen worktops
3. consistent in their affections
4. can run alongside a bike
5. don't poo in other people's gardens
6. they say woof. That's nice
And so on. I have had both. We had to get rid of our cat because it attacked the dog. A German Shepherd Dog.....Emerging from under a big black cloud. All help welcome0 -
