Don't think so as you don't have to say anything or make your presence known!0

I am male, I have posted here but mostly lurk, where does that put me then?!
I am guessing it is the first one so that is what I have voted for.
A lot of interesting who are you kind of threads lately!0 -
Perhaps I should have had a couple of categories for people who only post very occasionally. To be honest I am amazed at the numbers so far!0

TBH I'm not. Its a combination of exercise and technology, therefore the 95:5 male:female ratio is totaly unsuprising. Having studied engineering and working in IT I sometimes lust for the delights of a more balanced industry.
For example I know someone senior in Little Miss Selfridge, now there is an organsiation that does something to redress the balance!FCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0 -

There's a flaw in the poll.
How do we know that there aren't loads of female lurkers out there just reading the results?0 -

Likelihood = slim.
You should all know that women never shut up...

I wonder what numbers you would get if you posted the same question but used a subject like "RLJer killed by rozzers on chip shop run". The only reason I even clicked on this thread was because it's almost going home time and I've already read all the other posts with more interesting subjects. There is an inherent bias in your sampling method.No-one wanted to eat Patagonia Toothfish so they renamed it Chilean Sea Bass and now it's in danger of over fishing!0

i.e. blokes are interested in stats? Good point. Perhaps "click here for pastel-shaded butterfly-print cycling outfits" would have worked better?0

Or " Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie sign with Astana" Maybe add in Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford for a bit of age diversity.No-one wanted to eat Patagonia Toothfish so they renamed it Chilean Sea Bass and now it's in danger of over fishing!0 -
4 female posters? I can name more than that!
What is extremely encouraging, though, is how almost everyone who reads the commuting forum gets involved in the community.0 -
Hows about a Geographic Poll - different counties, or areas of the country?

Ah yes...London...that country near france (the capital of europe) which is roughly 241,590 sq km!Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

Well we could have a series of options like...
London - province of London - province but wish it was London - too embarrassed to say 'cos it ain't London is it
Actually a proper geography poll migh confirm or confound the belief that it's a London-centric forum. Esp is you include options for those who don't post to say where they live (London poster - London Lurker etc) as it might be that most lurkers are out of London but most posters are in London because we can't make friends in real life... :-PPain is only weakness leaving the body0 -

Yes, your sample is not representive. It's like asking all those who aren't here to raise their hands! People who don't contribute won't contribute to your poll. So your figures are skewed and therefore meaningless. Without a representative sample you cannot adopt a quantitative (statistical) approach like this. But you could use a qualitative approach and get opinions about 'why' people don't contribute - kind of like a focus group. You'd need less respondents but longer answers. Anyway, I guess it all depends on how bothered you are about having a valid methodology & at what level your research is at. At University or in Market Research companies a valid methodology is the only way to enable valid results. Hope that helps - good luck.'Happiness serves hardly any other purpose than to make unhappiness possible' Marcel Proust.0 -
