Turbo help

I've got a problem with my Cycleops Magneto turbo... the chuffing vibration and noise.

Just moved house and the first session the vibration caused a pot to shake off a shelf in the room next to the turbo, the next had the neighbours 2 doors down complaining. I know it shouldn't be THAT loud. I'm assuming that the old beams running through the house and the 2 next door are carry the vibrations so will a rubber mat or somesuch underneath the trainer help? Or is something loose causing excess vibration?

Rubber mats will help, or you could suspend it on bungees from a frame you make yourself for really good vibration damping.
  • Excellent... a mat it is!

Now then, does anybody have any pointers as to a ggod one? Or are they all much the muchness? I resent paying £50 for a rubber mat, so the Cycleops £30 one is winning thus far...

Clearly I am not sure about your turbo set-up, but if a slick tyre is used on a turbo, it shouldn't need much more than a couple of pieces of carpet to dampen the vibrations to the floor.

If it is vibrating that badly something is causing it, are you using a road (or mountain) bike with slicks?

Road bike with slicks, yeah. There does seem to be some lateral movement in the roller assembly now i've got home and looked at it, so maybe i need to tighten that up some as well...

If it helps, I have just checked my Tacx variable resistance magnetic turbo, and there is absoultely no play at all side to side in the roller assembly, not so much as a 1000th of a millimetre!

That roller play could be a good place to start.
