I can't possibly imagine why you would want to relinquish a quaint little fishing town like Berwick upon Tweed, whilst hanging on to Middlesbrough.

Thats in North Yorkshire.................nowt to do with us up here (or down here...from your perspective...):lol::lol:

Get yourself over to the "I forgot my pants" thread......

There's loads of it there - London Birds Gawd Bless 'em, crackin on like Mother Superior when you just know the closest they come to Knickers is the Battery section of Ann Summers.

Where did all the Country Folk go?

Is there a rush on handicrafts at the moment?

I was just starting to enjoy all the talk of misty Glens and wild open moors, hill climbs and what not.

Girv in Norn Iron may have already knocked off for the weekend to tally his bananas or something. Presume the Scots are scoring their heroin and Buckfast for the weekend.

Nope, still here. But I'd best be getting home soon to get locked up before dark, when the foul beasties start aroamin' the Glens.

I live in a Glen, come to think of it.

Have you not heard? Scotland is now run by The Scottish National Party who plan to make Scotland self sufficient in energy needs by creating five new power stations that will burn English people.

It's all very progressive in the Glens.

Where's London? Rather keep the one forum but it would be nice if some people were to PM each other instead sometimes.

Actually after looking at the Silly Commuting Thread I've changed my mind. Pages 249/250 seem to be about arranging to meet up somewhere. I don't think we should change this forum but add a Cakestop forum where these sorts of things can be discussed. Or if the London cyclists want to use the forum to arrange their social lives they do it via PM?

The SCR thread is half SCR stuff, and half the commuting section's watercooler - that's why it's such a success. Occasionally this'll involve organising a meetup but usually it doesn't. Don't think we really need a section just for that (though I can see why such posts are a bit dull for you).

Fair enough but maybe it would be better to start a new thread entitled "Meeting at..." so bods like me can keep on watching threads without getting too bored?

  • Its getting right grumpy is it not. Leave the Londoners alone, they are a harmless bunch. SCR is half stupid, half fun and half racing.

Im not claiming ownership of this forum, Ive not even made 150 posts, but the people complaining dont seem to post that much on the Commute forum...

You'll be burnt in a big wicker man for pointing that out.

Anyway, good to meet the London SCR contingent tonight - Lets see if we can take over this thread as well!!! :0P

Snooks, your poster is in the McDonalds colours and every time I see it it subconsciously makes me want a burger. Even the layers of text look burger-esque!

Its not completely unreasonable to point out that for those of us distributed around these isles, the forum is something other than a social club. I've been visiting the forum for about 10 months now and its not been quite so...focussed... for most of that time.

I come to the forum I think to remind myself that there are other people who go to the extraordinary lengths that I do to avoid publlic transport: I guess for a sense of inclusion. I don't appear to be alone in feeling that if the forum become EXclusive, it defeats the object for me.

You have to consider that relative quiet from non-London posters recently might be a bit of chicken & egg. No point me posting that I was left hooked coming in to the Meadows this morning if, aparrently, "the forum" is going to skip past the near death experience to "the Meadows" and think, "Where's that? Nothing to do with me." and post "so, how about that left hook I had near Tower Hill this morning chaps?" on another thread that instantly runs to three pages. I might as well head off to the RBR forum where people will be interested because I come from "away".

I see this thread as a little bit of forum self moderation.

And if you were on a forum full of chaps who knew exactly how dangerous "the Meadows" is/are and were keen to learn more, sympathise and share their own experiences, you'd end up with three pages too!

But anyway, your point's not really a fair one. The content in your example is the left hook/near death experience and that's of interest to everyone, even if those of us who live in That London can't actually debate the road layout in question.

FWIW I don't miss riding to work through London traffic. The forum has been a good way of reinforcing that feeling, having had instead a longish ride alongside a highway that is pretty scenic if you ignore the rush of heavy traffic next to you, and always with the opportunity if I choose to maybe take a longer and less trafficked route home.

That is likely to change as I'll probably be back in the environs of London if not the city itself soon enough, a mere 2 years after I left, and looking for work seeing as it has suddenly dried up here. :?

Until then I intend to ride the country roads around East Cork, enjoy them and generate some good memories while I can, to buffer me from the horrors soon to come

I think you just confirmed my point there mate.

I managed to have a reasonable discourse with the guy commuting through Belfast, although I have no local knowledge. I can take a quick look at the Vauxhall one way system and its like quite a few of the junctions with the M8 in Glasgow city centre.... blah. What's stopping you from sympathising?

(The Meadows is a bad example actually)

You have a very good point! It's just that the thing about forums like this is all kinds of conversations need to sit side by side, even if not everything is interesting to everyone, because otherwise things Balkanise to an extent that the community is lost. Let's say a London meetup board was started, and all the good stuff (I use this term loosely :) ) from the SCR thread ended up moving over there. Would you be glad to be rid of the London talk, or sad not to see Greg's increasingly bonkers pronouncements?

It's very hard to decree what gets talked about where on this kind of forum because too much interference will put people off. I reckon the commuting boards are amazingly interesting, funny and respectful compared to most internet communities - even compared to the rest of bikeradar.
