Hello, new to road cycling and was wondering what the uses are for using a heart rate moniter. Im eager to increase my fitness level and also lose weight. Just bought an scr 3 and put a computer on it that has a hrm on it. Also could someone tell me how to use it. All advice greatfully recieved cheers

For a novice rider, a HRM can be a useful tool to help you gauge the intensity of your training efforts. Once you have worked out your maximum heart rate (see this thread) you can set yourself heart rate training zones (example here).
Once you get a bit more experienced, you may find it more beneficial to guage your training efforts on perceived exertion (PE for short).
