Ride to work in the city is 12 miles each way.
Average between 15-16 mph, slower on the way home.
Max 42 mph on one down hill stretch, love over taking the cars, it seems to upset them.Glen

thomsonn wrote:I commute 25 miles each way, going out average 21.5 mph (best was a 22,3mph), top sped hovers around 42/43 dependent on tail wind. coming home average is 19.4. reason being is that coming home the wind is ALWAYS against me, hence top speed is in the low 30's. I should also mention aside from Kingston Hill and Putney hill (surrey) the route is very flat. Average includes traffic lights (although auto pause enabled on computer)
Hi, where do you come in from? Sounds close to me (Woking). I used to do the Kingston/Putney hills but now more often go through the park, past the Royal Ballet School and rejoin half way down the hill into Putney. Mile or so longer, but more pleasant.
Know what you mean about the prevailing wind ...

no idea what my commute top speed is as I don't have a computer, those speeds are worked out from the total times, so include time spent at lights etc.
I did top out at 48mph once on a descent near Bristol Airport on my weekend bike.
That pretty much matches my daily commuting times avg 18-20 mph over 14.8 miles best time so far was 42 mins which I think is about 22mph avg, my fastest downhill speed was around 55mph or so but to be honest I wasn't really looking at the computer.

My bottom bracket was always making a knocking sound and I've been finding it harder and harder to reach higher speeds. So yesterday on my way home I took it a bike shop and had the bracket thingy greased and tightened. Cost £16 - next time I'm buying the tools, lube and doing it myself - but it was worth it as I learned something more about bike maintenance.
After the quick mend Streatham highstreet by DeVer, slightly downhill, I managed 29.3mph and I got that whole "World gone silent" thing, which happend when I did 29.7mph.
Today I was consistently around the 15 - 18mph, I topped out at around 28.7mph on a flat in streatham before I ran out of road.
I'm getting fitter and stronger because I still had more to give.Food Chain number = 4

A week of cycling SS in Snowdonia has definitely improved my top speed or it could be my new white chain, just think what the white saddles gonna do, I digress.Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

Excelsior! Monday morning legs rested, refreshed and refuelled with beer and spirits over the weekend.
Average speed: 14.6mph
Top speed: 26.4mph
Distance: 6.59miles
Took me 27mins (not sure if that is slow, quick or what) including lights and going around Denmark Hill.
I was mostly happy with this as it was a quick, non stop ride and I wasn’t trying to out pace myself, I just rode my ride.Food Chain number = 4

First day back on the bike after 3 weeks, so a bit of an easy recovery ride.

My CatEye Velo5 cycle computer reported slightly different figures:

Think I need to check the calibration on one or both of those devices!Today is a good day to ride0 -
Average 13mph, max 31mph. I'll claim my comparatively low average is from lots of stopping and starting, traffic lights, filtering etc. Don't know how you lot can maintain an average of 20+ mph on a commute. Maybe I need to stop messing about and pedal properly.Bianchi Via Nirone Veloce/Centaur 20100
