So how do we get a Luxembourg Jersey then?

Seen others on here say what a great jersey it was and i agree. Would be great if we get the opportunity to get our hands on them...

I think the back of it looks a little too "cartoony" - like a Foska jersey. Not to mention the fact that every time you wore it, you'd have to explain to somebody what "Letzebuerg" meant.

And then explain why you're wearing it when you're (i) not an Olympic athlete and (ii) not even from Luxembourg...

Anyone has a right to wear it if they earn the money to buy it.

But I have the right to wear it - I am the Schleck family's "dark secret".
(I am the spitting image of Andy - apart from being twice his age, heavier and infinitely less useful on a bike)

    Hear Hear. Good comment.

I daresay it has been talked about before but all the numpties you see wearing world champs kit make me cringe. I'm all for people wearing whatever floats theri boat, but in terms of jersies that have to be earned, wait untli you have earned them.

That rules out any Pro Tour Jersey then....

You can where what you want. Cycling is rife with the old looking down ones nose syndrome....

Wear what you like but wearing the World Champion jersey is just a bit too much. You can wear Luxembourg kit, even the King of the Mountains jersey but the rainbow bands are sacred!

In some aspects, it would be like wearing Lewis Hamilton's fireproof race suit to drive to the supermarket. In other ways, the jersey is to be respected and should be reserved for champions, not beginners.

I had a world champs top when i was a schoolie. Loved it.

Cant see the harm really - its only a cycling top. The roads are full of yellow jerseys come July - it does mark you out as a fanboy, and usually a newbie, but its no biggy.

No harm. I can tolerate long socks and I'll even bite my tongue if I see someone in Astana or Liquigas kit. But wearing the rainbow bands? It's a bit like being a catholic and dressing up in the Pope's habit to go to mass, you just shouldn't do it.

I'm sorry, you can tolerate long socks, but not rainbow bands

So long as kit matches, i can tolerate rainbow bands, although I wouldn't wear them 8)

Some things I can't tolerate are as follows.

    Long socks
    Black socks
    Crocked helmet
    Missing bar end plugs
    Peaked helmets
    Clashing kit

Ahhhh good to get that off my chest. Actually come to think of it you shouldn't wear rainbow bands, never mind!

I wouldn't wear a World Champ jersey, I don't like white lycra. My bike has the stripes on the headbadge, though.
And come to think of it I have a New Zealand rugby jersey but I have never played for the All Blacks.

I do think the Bettini kit is a leeeetle over the top. Helmet, top, shorts, all rainbowed. Great for him, but not for us mere mortals. Its overkill.

You cant beat plain black shorts. Goes with whatever tops you have.

    Mismatched team kit is ridiculous.

I have a mate who has been seen in mitts, socks, shorts, top - all from different teams. He's like a mobile jumble sale. ;-)

all to their own, if people want to spend their money on team tops that their choice, but its typical of the british mentality ,does that mean i am CSC wanabee for wearing team top and shorts ? am i supposed to scared if i come across a fully clothed Assos posuer slagging me off for thinking am Jens Voigt.....they would have to be very good on a bike cos if anyone shouted at me i would kick their heads in after i had gave them a good old "Glasgow" kiss

I was a bit conscious of this when I started riding, wearing team kit or anything like it.

But now I don't really care. Most of it looks smart and best of all you can usually be seen a long way off, so great for avoiding scrapes with cars. That said the closest I've got to full kit is jersey, gloves and hat, but they're just things I've picked up gradually.

It seems that our neighbours on the continent really do not care at all though. The amount of pro team kit on display when I was in the alps was amazing, I think nearly every Dutchman had full Rabobank kit on! There was a more than fair share of people wearing full CSC and Caisse d'Epargne kit too.

Decent quality plain cycling jerseys cost the same as team kit usually, which means that when team kit has been replaced you can usually get it for less than a plain jersey!

I myself won't wear coloured shorts, or trade team jerseys, but everyone has the right to wear whatever they want, and who cares as long as they are riding eh? and i still want a Lux jersey :P

Except Lewis Hamilton isn't a champion, he's the guy who choked away a 17-point lead with 2 races to go. Just saying...

Clearly a lion rampant is the most badass heraldic device ever to feature on a cycling jersey. I think the Luxembourg jersey is especially good for those who consider the colours of the Flemish flag too much. Also, the Luxembourg lion is nicely assymetrically placed on the jersey and there is some nice red stiching and other details. Looks like someone put more effort in than any of the big countries (Italy, I'm looking at you)

The kit is modelled by Frank Sheck in this article (scroll down)
    http://www.pezcyclingnews.com/?pg=fulls ... tatus=True

I notice they have the rider's name on too. Nice.

Unless they have been produced for fans in Luxembourg (and who would want to be so gauche as to wear a pro/national team kit without having sacrificed everything to reach the pinnicle of the sport  ) I can't imagine there would be too many around.

I think the real wanabees are the guys that think they are too good for team kits.

Saying team kits are for wanabees is the same moronic mentality as saying 'Why do you wear lycra do you think you're a professional cyclist.'

I agree with the guy that said it's a typical British mentality. Footy shirts are the only sportswear allowed here.

I like the Belgian kit by the way.
  • Nice banter.....does anybody actually know where you might find the lux olympic jersey....In Pittsburgh it would rock....

I was in a bikeshop in Erp Holland a few weeks back and they had a clothes rack of national jerseys, old and new in various sizes on special - from all over the place. Prices started at 40euro for '06 Italian Worlds. can't recall fingering a Luxembourg 'trui' but who knows.... Empella is the name. Google 'em.
  • I've got no problem at all with people wearing team kit, it's no different to wearing a club football shirt. if you like a rider or a team, or if you just like the look of it, then so what.

I do however draw the line at replica world/yellow/polka dot etc jerseys. they are very specific in terms of identifying an achievement rather than a team or favourite rider and i think only those that have earnt them should wear them.

BTW anyone noticed how people wearing KoM jerseys are universally sh*t at climbing.

Cant believe people on here are actually questioning anyones right to wear an item of clothing of their choice. Who gives a monkeys whether its yellow, blue, pink, rainbow or whatever im just pleased to see so many peeps out on bikes without getting hang up over what their attire is..................jeezo some people eh...... heads up their ars*s and all that !!!!

I tend to agree but like others, just draw a small, faint line at the world champs jersey. No one is saying we need to cut up these people, drop tacks in the path and wish eternal headwinds on them.

I'd rather someone was cycling in the world champs jersey than not riding at all, it's just that I respect the world champion and feel companies selling the jerseys to naive fans are cashing in. It's like selling replica Olympic medals or buying a World Cup Trophy, you don't have to do it.
