    thanks i appreciate your comments.

i definately agree that smaller should be better, from what i've read and seen at shops, i think a smaller frame would suit me better. i don't want to over stretch and cause harm anywhere....

have a look at the bike fit calculator - but do like others said and get a smaller frame - 5-10 with 33 inside leg sounds similar to me and I take a 54 - 56cm frame or Medium by ribble's sizing

Hi, thanks for everyone’s input over the last few days, I have finally put pen to paper and purchased a bike, unfortunately against many people’s comments, I have decided on a Giant… a good deal I thought, a Giant SCR 1 for 639 quid cheaper than my lbs shops SCR 1.5 and 150 quid cheaper than the Forcus Variado Expert. Which will give me the opportunity to buy a few bits and bobs and not to stretch myself too far.

It looks like a good place to start.

Again thanks to everyone for helping me along with this decision, whether it be for or against…..

My first outing / race with it will be the Suffolk Bike Event on the 10th August, so if you see a SCR1 trailing in the bushes and someone sprawled on the ground with cut’s and bruises, you’ll know its me!! Bring on the Clipless Pedals!!

I think you made an excellent choice. The SCRs are good ,robust, relatively light, comfortable bikes and yours will have decent gear on it too.

For all the talk of them being common i have yet to see another one out on the road btw.
