He won by a couple of bike lengths in a straight sprint! Awesome. I'm starting to worry that he's too good - is it the track training that has given him such a high final cadence/speed? Oh, thierry Adam has just asked him that on french TV - yes seems to be the answer.

Cadel's doing his interview in french now - that's something that cav needs to learn...

Cheeky git - left his train and came off Hushovd's wheel instead! :D

What a star. He accelerates like a motorbike, never misreads the last few ks, doesn't go too soon or too late. Like McEwen but with a turbo - and he's only 23! You couldn't make it up!

I wonder if its his track experience that helps him get his positioning in bunch sprints, and has helped him hone that terrifying acceleration.

    Beat me to it Graeme!

Meant to add to my post that french TV are certainly talking about cav possibly dropping out at digne Les Bains to concentrate on the Olympics as though it is as likely as not.

and so he should pull out. Why ruin your form when u are odds on for a gold medal.

Think of the cash Cav will surely make from the criteriums after this Tour. The more stage wins he gets, the better for him.

Odds on for gold? They'll probably be heavily marked and another country will take advantage?

They were heavily marked by practically everyone at the world champs, and they blew the race apart when they finally made their move. It's not a dead cert, but I think they've got a very good shot at gold again.

I've never agreed with the concept of sprinters wining some stages and then pulling out before the Alps. It doens't seem to be in the spirit of the tour. If I ran the race, anyone who didin't make Paris would have their prize money forfeited to charity.

You missed the burnt out cars, then?

That was just Saunier Duval getting rid of evidence.

Ha! Ha! Very good! I hadn't thought of that one!
