The spoiler is, there are no spoilers. Nothing is happening.

So far today we've learned the origin of the phrase "close but no cigar", a brief history of French textile export and an interesting snippet about Britain's oldest colony of carp. Thanks David Harmon. I'm eagerly awaiting today's lesson about Simon De Montfort's various run-ins with the Cathars.

With no time bonuses one wonders what the point of this sort of stage is. Sure the green ones and the spotty ones get a few points here and there but the GC is never changed much.

Don't think the GC ever changed much on stages like this thanks to time bonuses - maybe if a break stayed away, but nowt to do with time bonuses.

It gives riders a rest between the two mountain ranges. Five consecutive mountain stages would be a bit much to ask. Plus it gives the French riders something to do.

It looks like someone decided this years tour was a bit boring so decided to start setting fire to a set of cars on the side of the road.. How bizarre

Not suggesting endless mountain stages, but surely there must be some way of livening up these stages?

Maybe they could have a stage where they don't close the roads - something for the common man to relate to.

Wouldn't surprise me if they add such a novelty to next year's Giro, in search of more entertainment. Or an ITT up the side of the leaning tower of Pisa.

That was just Saunier Duval getting rid of evidence.

Yes, currently calculating 950 'distances from home to stadium' by tediously inputting each home postcode into a route planner.

Still having more fun than anyone watching the stage.

not as fun as watching the cycling and the cricket at the same time. I loved watching England get thumped :p

come to think of it I also saw Princess Anne go past my window at work as she is here in Liverpool checking out all the Tall Ships

How many times does he have to win before y'all get bored?

He could win 3 more in theory.

Cavendish is in a zone this TDF! However, I do think if McEwen wasn't forced to work so hard for Evans (fetching bottles, sitting at the front to relay attack info, etc) he might have taken that stage.

Awesome, especially for completely stuffing McEwen!
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Bet that tiredness just disappears when his team drop him off in the last few hundred metres and he gets a sniff of the finish line.

If he makes it to Paris he is a stick-on for that stage.

If he can carry it into the classics, he's going to be one of the true greats.

and so he should pull out. Why ruin your form when u are odds on for a gold medal.

Because he can earn a lot more money winning stages in the Tour than he ever could from an Olympic gold?

The speed he pulls away from the peleton at is unreal. He wouldn't be any faster if you fired him out of a cannon!

I wonder if its his track experience that helps him get his positioning in bunch sprints, and has helped him hone that terrifying acceleration.
