How comes neither Saunier Duval riders were caught at the Giro where they both rode? They seem to allow the TDF to take all the flak or are tests different?

    The test is blinging new.
Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.
  • Like I said before (and got roasted), the giro is like the tour without the drug tests. Anyone who believes either the Italian or Spanish authorities, with the odd exception, have any interest in catching one of their own cheating is sadly mistaken.

  • iainf72 - my understanding is that there is no new test. The anomalous bands are just shifted further up the gel as CERA compounds have a higher mol mass than epo.

I believe the test is new (developed by WADA and LNDD in conjunction with Roche) but no information was released as WADA were building a bear-pit for Tour riders to fall into.

I wonder if CERA would be beneficial if you were required to take part in a Grand Tour at 8 days notice?

Neil Stephens? Even RV admitted it in the end. Don't think the battling ausies ever fessed up.

Yes, pretty sure Stevo never admitted it.

Procycling story this month (nice timing) has Stevo down as never 'fessing up, and another one too ? I think ?

Stephens admitted to taking EPO but maintained he didn't know it at the time, he thought he was getting vitamins. He refuses to say any more but he did confess to police. He then moved seamlessly to become a DS for Manolo Saiz, and now performs the same role for Caisse d'Epargne.

Only Pascal Herve remains in denial.

IIRC, Stephens spent at least one year in the 'wilderness' chaperoning wealthy package tourists round le Tour. Certainly spotted him in a Grenoble hotel one year.

Wasn't Bassons on the team as well at that time?

As some of the positives have taken a week to come back i hope no-one realises that the tour would have to face a Landis-style embarassment if someone tests positive this week and ends up winning the tour.

Though presumably by now the whole peloton is wise to the fact that there is a test for CERA, they may be slightly more cautious in what they consume. Then again, I've long since given up on thinking professional cyclists were that intelligent.

Given how long one dose of Mircera is supposed to last, anyone who's taken it in the first week, before the poo hit the fan, could probably still get busted, though I guess the amount of sample required would be an issue. They probably know from blood profiles, who's potentially been naughty, and who to target though.
