Don't know what anyone else thinks but everything doesn't seem to be going with the usual flow, is it all the media hype or a shallow point getting ready for Beijing but he doesn't look on the money in the last 2 days

Today's finish had a climb 2km before the finish. Many of the pure sprinters weren't there. It's quite likely he'll be up there tomorrow.

We haven't had a flat-out sprint yet where the lead-out trains get to work and deliver their rider to the last 300m at about 65kph
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

bit early to show his hand I would have thought. He must be a marked man right now. If he picks his nose the peleton will all change gear :lol::lol:

He'll also want to stay out of trouble. An accident now will ruin his olympic chances

Agreed - wait until tomorrow, then make a judgement!

Sprinter in arrogant shocker. Comes with the territory.

    I'm glad he is.

Give the guy a break he isn't gonna win every race he starts!!

I'm not sure what he planned for today but he said before stage 1 that he was just gonna sit up at the bottom of the hill at the end of the stage and conserve his energy for later in the race!

Theres been two uphill sprints. His team mates kirchen (4th day 1 2 day 2) and ciolek(3rd day2) are much better suited for these than cav! Tomorrows stage is almost entirely flat so im sure he will be up there tomorrow!

Nope, nope, nope. He's rubbish, obviously, there have been two non-sprinters stages which he hasn't won. Obviously it's because he's a fat arrogant nothing...

Lay off him for a while, there have been two stages which wouldn't have suited him so he's kept out of trouble. Why is everyone so keen to get on his back, so what if he's arrogant and young, in case you haven't noticed, he's an incredible talent.
You live and learn. At any rate, you live

Hahahahahahaha.... give him a stage finish thats right for him and we'll see what happens. Yeah he's arrogant but he's every right to be, and if he wasn't he'd be nowhere near as good!

You should've waited until the end of today before considering writing this thread :)

The first two stages had hilly finishes.

This was the bunch sprint today behind the 4 man break:

    5 Robbie McEwen (Aus) Silence-Lotto
6 Erik Zabel (Ger) Team Milram
    7 Oscar Freire (Spa) Rabobank
8 Thor Hushovd (Nor) Crédit Agricole
    9 Robert Förster (Ger) Gerolsteiner
    10 Mark Cavendish (GBr) Columbia

I've gone right off him these past couple of days to be honest - yesterday he was talking about he is "the hottest property in procycling right now" (even if he is - it was a proper big-headed comment and manner in which it was delivered) and now today stropping with that interviewer and when asked what he had learned in the past couple of days "nowt - don't need to learn out" before stropping off...

    hmmm..

Jesus, give the guy a break. How would you feel if your team had just f*cked up the chance of winning one of the few stages you'd targeted? I'd be livid and having some guy with a microphone asking me dumb questions wouldn't help my mood.
  • ive tried hard to like Cavendish but tonights interview confirmed that my initial reaction to him was correct. What a pig-ignorant,arrogant little so and so,as someone said earlier i hope he doesnt come anywhere near a stage win

Being knackered and having a journo ask lame questions is only gonna get short replies. For some reason sportsmen are supposed to be model interviewers. No idea why.

    no idea?

how about the fact that the people who listen to the interviews pay his wages?

Right. Perhaps we could skip all that cycling business and get straight to the interviews then

The point is he needs to learn to control his gob.

There's nothing wrong with being angry, but be angry during the team meeting. A good stock answer to jouno's would be "I'm disappointed but it didn't work out - Next time I'll win" It's always someone elses fault.

He comes across quite reasonable here but when not having a sheen applied by the Cycling Weekly jouno's he comes over differently/

Why did he expect CSC to chase?
Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.

    you know what I mean....

as said - a stock answer would have done - he didn't have to go off on one as he did!

Arrogant tw@t. There was absolutely no need to be so rude to the interviewer. No matter how disappointed he was, he is a leading sportsman to whom younger aspiring athletes might look up to and he should set an example. Look at Roger Federer - he must have been gutted on sunday but was totally magnanimous in defeat.
  • Just to counterbalance the current Hamilton-bashing (it's the same in every sport), Matt Randall did ask a pretty retarded question in what he has learnt the past two days. He's not a neo anymore!

Anyway, just like saw in the world in F1 until last sunday, the bashing will continue until he gets that stage win. He's a sprinter ffs.

Ok you guys, stick to supporting the Frank Brunos and Eddie the Eagles of this world. I'll follow The Cavs and Andy Murrays.

PS is this interview on youtube yet?

    Cheers

I think Columbia should send him home now and replace him with Ant and Dec. They're always so good when they're interviewed. A little cheeky, a little bit of wit. They won't win any races but it's the interview that counts.

I think it's great that we're starting to get Brits that won't accept defeat. Would Hinault have said nice words in that situation? No. He would have headbutted the interviewer, then gone back to the hotel and kicked all his teammates in the balls. Why? Because he was a winner.

Oh, and Federer is magnaminous now because he's won so much. When he was 19/20 with no titles, he wasn't like that at all.

Please... he hardly "went off on one". He had a bit of a strop, that's all. And they were dumbass questions.

Yes a stock answer would have worked, but how boring is that?! Sport is meant to be about passion and emotion, not neatly contrived PR soundbites pre-screened by Nike. You can keep your Federers and Tigers Wood' and Lewis Hamiltons, they're boring as hell.

Actually found the interview quite funny. More stroppy than arrogant. Can't help but like the guy.

Woods and Hamilton are both prone to a good strop. Federer seems to have mellowed over the years.

Peanut, I think you'll find that most children have heard and used every swear word in the English language by the time they are about six. As for the point about women, how quaint. What, they are more sensitive and less likely to swear?
