Ok, this is it. The big one. The Tour de France, starts Saturday. Get yer pundit hats on.

Official website:

http://www.letour.fr/us/homepage_horscourseTDF.html

Start list:

http://startlist.cyclingfever.com/start ... t&id=18888

If you haven't played before (and I guess there are a lot of newcomers to the forum around this time of year) it's easy - just pick one rider who you think will win the Tour de France. That's it. If you're correct you get 100 points (or points down to 20th overall).

Then, before each stage, make a prediction on who you think will be the stage winner. You get 10 for a win, 5 for 2nd and 3 for 3rd.

You don't get any points for KOM, green jersey, lanterne rouge, most stylish haircut in the peloton or anything else. Just one GC name and daily stage winners. That's it.

Just looked on the comics webpage to see all the teamlists up there. They make comments about several high profile riders mysteriously not riding this year - due to sudden illness or loss of form - and imply the tour may have told them not to turn up.
Who are they talking about ?

I'm not going to be doing any sort of strenuous anything, just watching the Tour and maybe going for a spin. Ahhh, the joys of being a tax dodging student!!!

Anyway, my pick for GC is Valverde, and I think the first stage will go to one Mr Oscar Freire.

    Thanks

I'd think CSC/Saxo stand quite good chance, but have no idea who they'll support. One of the Schlek boys taking a big step forward or Sastre only riding two GTs this year & next to nothing else....

So I'll have to do the dull thing....
    GC: Evans
    St1: Freire

I was gonna go with Evans, but cheering him on would make the whole Tour-watching thing less fun. I'm going in deep left field, then.

    GC: Menchov
    Stage 1: Gilbert
