I have just booked my first session at the Manchester Velodrome for 27th July. I don't want to turn up and look a total novice so I am looking for some training tips to make sure I'm in decent shape. I have a turbo trainer available to use.

You will be a total novice so why worry about looking like one?
I guess you've booked onto an introductory session, in which case you don't need to worry about your fitness or anything - just look forward to the experience. There will be a qualified coach there who has experience of getting complete novices up and running and it doesn't take any special amount of fitness to ride round the track and get familiar with the feel and exhilaration of it. Just look forward to it - it's great fun!

Yeah - Ruth is right on. I've regularly run intro track sessions and it really doesn't matter how fit you are (as long as you're fit enough to ride OK).
Riders new to the track are pretty easy to spot, irrespective of how experienced/fit they are. So check your ego at the door, saddle up, listen, ride and have some fun.
