Fluid Intake

I've just read the article on here about fluid intake during hot weather. I have to admit I'm totally clueless on this subject and need some advice. I usually just drink water on my rides, but presumably water is not replenishing everything that you lose during sweating.

Would anyone be able to give me some advice on what to drink and when, and also the best brands to buy, taking into account value for money and ease of use etc.

many thanks

Gav

SIS "Go" is pretty good in hot weather - contains electrolytes that you sweat out during a ride - tasty like sweat but is strangely bearable

You can make your own homebrew cheaper by adding sachets of "Dioralyte" to your normal carbo energy drink mix

    http://www.myprotein.co.uk/bulk-powders ... te-powder/

    £3.49 for 100grams, it says

"As a food supplement consume 800 mg with approx 500 ml of water every hour of intense exercise."

So £3.50 plus postage for 125 portions.

    bargain :)

Torq Pink Grapefruit for me. As Infamous says, for rides over 2 hours, a minimum of 500ml every hour - depending on the temperature. More dilute and 750ml per hour in very hot conditions.

The SIS Go stuff dissolves in water so it shouldn't block your hose missus

the powders dissolve ok but will cause problems if you aren't scrupulously clean with your bladders and clean then after every ride. The stuff can ferment due to airborne yeasts and a stale alcohol smell is not nice and can be difficult though not impossible to shift.
