It's the first time I've heard of it. I would have thought it would be a good recipe for indigestion.

Fat's got alot more energy in it than Carbs (per gram) - as to how useful it is during an event, I'm not sure - (some of the other peeps will know alot more about this) - Pork pies certainly provide a nice savoury contrast to continuous sugar based products/drinks during an event though.

    Ditto Mettan.
On the Bryan Chapman Memorial audax - at the 300k mark ( or thereabouts ) I was having real trouble with stomach clenching cramps and wind - from the carb powder I'd put in a bottle. Since then I've never used powder again as it doesn't agree with me. I knew I needed proper food to try and balance out all the sugar and I do love pork pies. We found a shop and I bought a pack of three ( buy 2 and get the third 3 ). I promptly woofed them all and felt ace. No indigestion, no pain, wind stopped.
Guess what I'll be doing again on a long ride?

    I prefer scotch eggs myself.
Not sure that they'll help with Gr.uB's wind, though.

Steve Farrell, in a break with Ekimov, rode up to Eki and pulled a bag of crisps out of his jersey pocket and offered one to Eki... I think Eki declined.
