Can't really complain about ITV4's coverage (aside from the eternal debate about not everyone being able to receive it yet). An hour of highlights an evening, plus live coverage of weekend stages is pretty good if you've never had Eurosport, in my opinion. It's a package really - being able to watch the highlights while having tea and seeing/hearing Imlach, Liggett & Sherwen...takes me back to when I first began watching cycling on Channel 4!

And don't forget ITV4 are also doing hour long evening highlights during The Tour of Britain this year too! 8)

Hear hear. I usually watch Eurosport live, and then watch ITV4 in the evening for the "story behind the race", and I think that Imlach's sections are excellent, much better than anything Richardson and Roche can come up with in the studio on ES.

I didn't catch much of ITV's TV coverage last year, but their podcasts were excellent, with Matt Rendell and Chris Boardman. I don't really like Imlach much, I guess it goes back to his American football days on Channel 4.... Will be good to see the Ned Boulting - Cadel Evans duel renewed though.

For live commentary you can't beat Harmon and Kelly though.

You can also listen to the Tour through the BBC Sport website. Most days will be 90mins of the end of each stage, certain key stages will be longer. Graham Jones and Peter Slater, plus guests, will be on the microphones and taking listener questions.

I love Imlach and was too introduced to him through American Football back in the 80's i believe! Wow!

Boardman is tiresome as is Sherwin.... Ned seems cool. Always gets great gigs too eh??!!

I'm even signing up to sky so i can get Eurosport. Taking time off work so i can fully absorb that D'Huez stage!!

Damn, I'm trying to remember the other guy who did the American football on Channel 4 with Imlach! This is going to bug me...

+1 on the podcasts. I spent most of my train journeys into work last July sniggering into my skinny latte!

I didn't know Mr Imlach commentated on the American footy until his name came up in a pub quiz question. They never did believe me that he was also a cycling commentator.

Ok in the interests of full disclosure I'm one of the Producers of ITV4's Tour coverage. This year in addition to the daily highlights programme there will also be live coverage avaiable on the Red Button. Simply select ITV4 & press the Red Button. This service will be available on weekdays only. ITV4 will have live coverage at weekends.

We're continuing with the podcast. This year Chris Boardman is busy helping to prepare the Olympic squad and can only join us at weekends. On weekdays the American former Tour rider Bob Roll will join Matt Rendell on the podcast.

ITV4 will also be showing nightly highlights of the Tour of Ireland in late August, Gary Imlach, will present & Liggett & Sherwen will commentate.

There'll also be nightly highlights of the Tour of Britain in early September.

That sounds great. Is this available on freeview? Didn't know ITV had a red button option like BBC?

The Red Button service is available on Freeview and Satellite. I think this may be one of the first times that ITV has used the Red Button. We'll be putting up the live feed uninterupted (no ads). The timings vary according to the stage, but I'll try to get a list of times up on the itv.com/tour website next week.

Is it not available on Virgin cable? :?

Wow, if that does happen - live uninterrupted coverage - I may suddenly become ill during July!!! It sounds great.

I'll be interested to see how UK cycling fans react to Bob Roll. I quite liked him on OLN, but he does take a bit of getting used to and is very, erm, American. Hopefully he'll tone down the Lance worship a bit for the UK.......

I believe that Virgin Cable should have it as well but I'll have to check.

I'm pretty sure when I was watching the F1 coverage on ITV1 at the weekend I spotted a red button logo for the first time. Presumably if Virgin have the ITV1 red button, they would also have the ITV4 red button.....

amazing!!! Bob seems to tell it as it is and is legendary amongst the peloton. His interviews on the Competitors Podcasts are always funny. Can't be any worse than ol'excited Boardman can it?!

Un interupted coverage too!!! Amazing!!! Can u record that?? Cna't wait

Sounds excellent - well done ITV(4)!

I will miss the Boardman/Rendell combo on the podcasts but Roll/Rendell should be interesting!

Ok having double checked there is good and bad news.

The Red Button feed will be available on Satellite/Sky and on Virgin Cable only

Sadly no Freeview as there is insufficient bandwidth.
You can access ITV interactive by pressing Red whilst watching any ITV channel.
So if you can currently get ITV interactive you'll be able to see the live Tour feed.

Sorry to those who are disappointed.

Just set sky+ for series link for the highlights shows. This red button business sounds very interesting for the couple of days that I'll be off during the Tour too.

How do I go about tracking down the podcast - I have the bikeradar.com one set to download automatically already.

TVprod - I can't pick up digital TV because of where I live. Will the hightlights show be downloadable from the ITV website? If so, do you know what the delay will be between the show and the download?

Given at the hightlights are never repeated on itv1, it would allow non-freeview viewers the chance to see the highlights show. It is so frustrating not being able to pick it up!!

Excellent work on the highlights programme generally by the way!
